Marines POV

“Welcome guys, take a seat” Webber says as we all start to arrive to our, now, familiar classroom. It was the day after my mother told me about the ball. I thought that this would be the best time to tell them about it. I just felt awkward asking Webber about it, but he’s pretty chill, so hopefully it will go all well.

I was kind of excited for this. It felt like a nice way to pamper myself, to restart and reimage myself. Also, all my friends would hopefully be there, so it would be great fun.

We all sit in the seats we usually sit in and wait for Webber to begin by chatting amongst each other. I decide to just tell everyone about the ball before Webber gives us our topic for the day.

“Hey Webber, I kind of have an announcement…. Thing.” I say crinkling my forehead, unsure of myself. Everyone turns to me.

“Well, go ahead.” He says simply, leaning down on his desk, arms crossed.

“So, this is kind of lame, but my mother is having a ball. Like an actual starlet ball, you guys I assume already know who my mother is from your initial reaction to my last name,” everyone lets out a chuckle, “ and so, I am allowed to invite you all, even you Webber. She knows who you are and she wants as many successful people as she can get, as she says. So…”

I look around the room to see Winter, Clementine and Alex’s eyes glowing, Berlin,Qiunt, and Charlie’s eyes raised slightly, and Webber the exact way he was.

“ OH MY GOD A BALL YES YES IM COMING.” Alex and Winter say at the same time. They proceed to talk together excitedly discussing outfits and getting hair done and what not. I look to Clementine and she shyly smiles,

“It’s not lame, I just don’t really have clothes for a ball, the money either…”

“Please,” I say, “mean either.” I say as an attempt to make her feel better.

“How about you come over to my place the day of the ball, we can find you something?” I offer. I really have been able to connect with Clementine. She’s shy, a feminist, and refreshingly real. She and I have connected since this workshop has started and she has continued to open up to me since. We sometimes go out alone together for coffee, or shopping for poetry books with Electra ( who usually sticks in the fashion magazine aisle.)

Clementine grins, “ I can ask. When is it?” She asks. I look around the room,

“It’s in three days, at the end of the week. It’s at The Plaza hotel; you know the one on 768 Fifth Avenue, Midtown. They shot The Great Gatsby there?”

“Trust me, we know where it is.” Webber exclaims and I roll my eyes. “ Sure Marine, I will stop by if that’s what your mother wants.” We all laugh. I finally look to the rest of the guys, my eyes hopeful.
