Ashton // 1957
It was Christmas Eve, and I was beyond nervous. Everything was planned, the table was set and the candles were lit. Velma had no clue what was going to happen tonight but I was sure she would be happy. It was nearly 9 and she was getting ready. I fixed my tie for the fifth time before she appeared from the hallway. A beautiful red dress clung to her body. My heart leaped at the sight of her.
"What do you think?I had it custom made," she said walking to me. The sound of her heels against the floor. I was beyond mesmerized.
"You look stunning as always. I'm always taken away by your beauty," I said pulling her in close as we shared a kiss before leaving to our dinner reservation. I had everything planned, the box in my pocket, holding my fate. We arrived to the restaurant with minutes to spare.
"Name of reservation?" The waiter asked.
"Irwin," I answered as he looked at the through the list of names.
"Oh yes, Mr.Irwin for two. Right this way," he said leading us to our table on the balcony. There we ate and talked. Her smile made me weak, but isn't that love? I knew had to do it before the night carried on.
"Velma, for the short time that I've known you I've felt so happy and you make me feel as though I have purpose. I don't want it to be just a date here and there anymore. I don't wanna lose you either. So, with this in mind, would you Velma Lancaster do the honour of becoming Velma Irwin." I said as I stood propped on one knee, the velvet box open exposing the diamond ring. Her eyes twinkled with tears as she nodded her hand over her lips so as not to cry.
"Yes, a million times yes!" She said and I got up, placing the ring on her ring finger. We embraced and I heard the others in the restaurant clap. All this struggle was worth it. All to be here with her.
