S.O.T.D: SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND BY THE NEON TREES (AHA FELT THIS WAS QUITE FITTING...READ ON TO SEE WHY)

ANDREW OFF TO THE SIDE>

"Harper, please wait!" I heard Tre and Jerry yelling simultaneously as I ran down the stairs, "It's not what it looks like"

"Oh, so my best friend wasn't just making out with my boyfriend?" I yelled tears streaming down my face.

"Let me explain" Tre yelled behind me.

"Fine" I said stopping in my tracks and turning to them, "Explain"

They both regarded me, shocked, as they tried for words.

"Harper, it was a mistake. I'm so sorry" Jerry cried. I realized, to my satisfaction, that her eyes were puffy and her makeup was running down her face, making her look even worse than I probably did. I watched as she raked a hand through her short blonde hair and blinked her brown eyes excessively.

"I can't believe this" I stuttered looking to Tre who had an apology written all over his face.

"Harper, please. Don't hate me" Jerry whimpered, "Do anything else...just don't hate me"

I stared her in the face and did the first thing I thought of...

I punched her in the face.

"Harper!" she shrieked as blood instantly began gushing from her nose.

"Ohmigod I'm so sorry!" I gasped shocked, "I mean, I still hate you but I'm so sorry for possibly breaking your nose"

With that, I hastily turned on my heel and left a scared Tre to figure out what to do.

I walked out of the school, not caring that I was 'technically' skipping the rest of the day and started my car. I just wanted to get away from this place, right now.

The drive home was quick and I thanked God that my parents' cars weren't present in the driveway. I slowly noticed that our mailbox was stuffed with letters and went over, a sense of dread in my heart. I noticed the familiar Harvard letterhead and took a deep breath.

Dear Ms. Dale

We are sorry to inform you that we have reviewed your application, among many others, and are unfortunately unable to offer you a place in our prestigious Business program...

I stood staring at the letter, taking shallow breaths. Without thinking, I ripped the paper to shreds and stuffed them in my bag as the realization dawned on me.

I hadn't been accepted.

It was different to know that you didn't want to do something but knew you could if you wanted to, than to know you couldn't even if you tried...

It sucked even more that Harvard had been the only place I, or my parents allowed me to, apply to.

For the first time in my life, I was a reject.

I heard a loud honk as a car came up the driveway, three houses down.

"Hey, Harvard!" I heard Ethan yell stepping out of the black SUV. What were they doing at Andrew's so early?

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked wiping a stray tear.

"Drew's getting his stuff" As if on cue, Andrew got out of the car and went into his house, not acknowledging my presence as usual.

"For what?"

"We, my friend, are skipping the last months of the charade that is high school to, as you girls say, 'find ourselves'" Chandler said jovially.
