DONT HESITATE TO COMMENT GUYS, ONLY ONE CHAPTER LEFT ;)

The hall was grand; done up in deep reds and shiny golds, as if we were royalty. Waiters in black tuxedo's and scarlet ties crossed the room in long elegant strides, with plates of appetizer's you couldn't pay me a dollar to pronounce correctly. I sauntered in, with a big grin plasted on my face as I took in the happy chatter amongst the guests.

"Harper!" Mom's angry yell was hard to miss and I turned around to face her. She stood, hooked on to dad's arm with her lips pursed as if perpetually set that way.

"How goes life, ma?" I waved hi to dad and he hid a grin the moment mom slapped his shoulder.

"What on Earth do you think you're wearing?" she hissed looking around, making sure she wasn't making a scene.

"Well, since you never went over the dress code with me, I figured I would surprise you" I said earnestly, "Surprise!"

Her angry eyes raked over my outfit and she practically blew steam out of her ears. I mean, you probably would too.

I was wearing a pair of acid wash hot pants, neon yellow knee socks, a high lighter pink v neck tshirt, and a bright purple headband. To make matter's worse, my lips were filled in with a Nicki Minaj-esque shade of bubblegum pink and my eyes were lined with the brightest glitter eyeliner I could find.

"You go home right now or~"

"Mom, can I just enjoy myself?" I gave a sad pout and she rolled her eyes.

"You listen here missy~"

"Robin" dad's cool voice cut through what she was about to say and she slowly raked her hard blue eyes to meet him, "She's just having fun"

"Fun? Looking like a clown is fun? She's making a fool of us, Henry" Mom scoffed looking between my father and I, "I don't know what your M O is but I'm not finding it acceptable"

"Honey, look! Jonathan and Rachel Hawthorne" Mom's eyes easily snapped to a couple in expensive looking attire and she flared her nostrils.

"Deal with your child" she said through gritted teeth before flouncing away.

"What are you wearing?" Dad asked with a glint in his eyes.

"California made me realize a lot of things...One of them being that I was sick of always doing what I thought I should be doing" I muttered, "Being happy is more fun"

"Okay" He whispered pulling me under his arm and kissing my forehead, "Okay"

"Henry, how are you?" A man in a black suit and graying beard jauntily patted dads shoulder and I watched him wince.

"I'm great, John. How are you?"

"Still dealing with the divorce but, my Candy really knows how to make me forget those kinds of things" The John character pointed to the opposite end of the party where a short blonde stood giggling in a group of rich men. Her long hair was bouncing just as much as she was and I grimaced.

"Oh" Dad looked at a loss for words but John was already moving onto the next person, ready to sing songs of praises about his 'Candy'.

"She's young enough to be your friend" Dad murmured distastefully and I laughed.

"That's the botox you're looking at" His eyes popped as he looked at her again and I rolled my eyes, "How naive you are, father"

He gave a deep laugh and looked into the distance, "Your friends are here"
