TWENTY-TWO
Hearing the snarl that echoed through the house made even the Brotherhood freeze. Even being vampyre's, they all managed to go pale.
The Brotherhood were the first to move and seconds later, Jayden followed them. Only to dive out the way when five six-foot-eight tonnes of muscle started darting away from Ashley and Damon's room, frantically searching. What the hell?
Looking in the room, Jayden saw that Damon wasn't there, and Ashley... she'd half turned into her other form. The scales hadn't appeared, but her skin had changed it's hues. Black, white and red. Her hair was waving around statically. And fingers had turned into claws. Jayden guessed that Damon was missing as Ashley let loose another menacing growl that made Jayden cower. He didn't care if anyone made fun of him for it. He'd rather it than going against Ashley.
Finding Kayline in the living room, the Brotherhood walked in at the same time looking at Spirit. Spirit looked livid, but terrified at the same time. It was not a good look for the leader of the Brotherhood.
"Dawn's just hit, we can't go outside," Sparrow said the obvious.
"Do you think the dracan will help?" George asked.
"They don't know that Damon's an angel," Phoenix replied.
"And they will not find out unless they find him," Spirit said before turning to Kayline. Jayden would have snarled at the member of the Brotherhood if he hadn't gentled his voice to talk to his mate, but he did, so Jayden left it. "Kayline, can you phone Tim Dager and ask whether he can do a search for Damon in any places Damon might go, please?"
Kayline nodded, shaking, but Jayden guessed it was more so because of Ashley's growls. Kayline left the room to phone the draca.
"Phone the Blue Moon bar and see if Galina has seen anything."
They didn't get an answer from Kayline, but they all knew she heard.
Jayden hated to ask, but... "Now what?"
The creature in front of him was... was the light playing with him or was it really lavender coloured with a forked tongue and claws instead of fingers? Maybe whoever had knocked him out had drugged him. But would his mind come up with something so...
Damon's mind clicked. It was a darkwalker. They'd been in Ashley's memories. It was these that she'd fought against for thousands of years. Protected the unknowing humans from.
Seeing that it was interested with something on the floor, Damon's curiosity got the better and he looked down. No. Okay, they annoyed him at times but... Damon slowly looked at his wing. All the feathers had been ripped from the bone leaving the bones white and red. Both of them. Bone and blood.
Damon felt his heart squeeze and his eyes burn, stupid that he was so upset. But it was just like with Ashley. As soon as they started to get along, they were taken from him. Torn from him.
Moving to reach for his wing, just to touch it, to see what they were like now. Not that he'd known what they were like before, he'd ignored them as much as possible before unless they'd got in his way. Now he regretted his denial. What did they feel like? No, what had they felt like? But as he moved, Damon felt something pull him back as a blinding pain made him slam his eyes shut and grit his teeth. Damon didn't unclench his jaw until the urge to cuss until he was blue in the face was gone.
Hearing a the sound of flesh meeting flesh that sounded like a kick, Damon was glad that it wasn't him who had to grunt from the pain but the darkwalker who'd been playing with a snowy white feather decorated in bloody red.
