FORTY-SEVEN
The clash of blades rang through Ashley's ears. So did the noises in the forest. The darkwalkers had heard the fight. And now they were coming out to play. Snarling at the angel who leapt up into the air to avoid her blow, Ashley followed suit.
Leaping into the air, she spread her wings to hover, instinct driving her as she dodged a blow.
"Focus on the forest," Ashley warned Damon.
Ashley felt his agreement before she heard his words. "Darkwalkers are in the forest!"
The sound of her vampyre's and the dracan turning to fight off the offending darkwalkers sounded as they ran for the trees. Snarls echoed through the slight woods that surrounded what had once been a Vayre hotel now a battle field.
Damon's shout had also made the angel's pause for a moment. Do they continue to attack the one who they were sent to kill? Or do they attack the reason she and Ravin were made for? It was that slight pause that gave her, Ravin, Maize and her Brotherhood the advantage. Because in that single moment, Ashley and Ravin killed two angels, then Ashley killed a third and the Brotherhood took down another. Six angels left.
As Ashley returned to the ground to continue the fight where the angels had decided killing Ashley would come first, Ashley told the others who to let live. She told them to let the angel who had tried to kill them before live.
"Why?" Phoenix asked, genuinely curious.
"Because the Archangel's will harm him more than we ever could, this will be the second time he fails to kill me. They won't be happy with that. And he can send the Archangel's a message for me."
As though they just realised that Ashley and hers had taken down four of theirs and they'd taken down none of hers, the angels decided to up the game. They brought magic to the table.
George yelled his pain, Dtiroya's angel had him... and his yell of pain nearly covered Damon's hiss of pain. Damon! Pushing her magic out, Ashley swamped the field and woods under power. The angel's actually looked shocked. And their shock, once again, made them vulnerable. Another two were taken down as Spirit went to help his Brother get free of Dtiroya's angel's grip. The angel stared at Ashley for a moment, as though sensing that it was her magic that was fighting his magic over George's life.
A wave of possessiveness washed over Ashley as the angel gripped George tighter while trying to ward off Spirit at the same time.
The moment she could, Ashley cut off the wings from the angel in front of her. The pain that was voiced... was worse than Maize's hounds howls. It was shattering. Heart-breaking. Destroying. If you were human.
Hearing more footsteps from behind as Ashley moved over to the fight with Dtiroya's angel, Ashley didn't even glance at the newcomers, sensing that more her vampyre's had arrived.
"Fight the darkwalkers!" Ashley commanded the newcomers. Immediately they spread into the forest. "Protect Damon!"
As Ashley joined the fight with Dtiroya's angel, the angel let go of his grip on George to fight her. Spirit and George listened to her last spoken words and went to find Damon as it still hadn't been truly announced among her vampyre's that she had a mate. That was something she'd have to correct before her vampyre's decided to try and kill him. Or flirt with him.
Ashley shifted back to her human form, pins and needles shook her as she gripped her leaf shaped bloody sword more tightly. "I want you to give the Archangel's a message," Ashley told the angel.
"Why would I do that, ellengæst of æ?" the angel questioned in a snarl, his white iris flashing in annoyance had her command.
"Because you're the only one that I'm going to let live," Ashley replied with certainty.
