TWENTY-SEVEN

Changing into a baggy shirt and loose bottoms, Vivian tucked her hair behind her ear– she froze. Cocking her head, Vivian listened more closely. What was it? Was it the man? Did he know where she lived? When nothing further happened, and since Kave was only looking at the window instead of growling at it, Vivian yanked back the curtain to see a surprised Dee settling in her tree.

"What are you doing?" her voice high in shock. Opening the window, she repeated her question.

But he didn't answer. He stared in shock and horror at her face. It was then that Vivian remembered that she'd tucked her hair back. Turning away so that he got the clean side of her face, Dee nearly scrambled inside to turn her back.

"No, no, no, look at me, Vivian."

Vivian felt her eyes widen. She swore he just spoke without moving his lips. And it was her shock at that that turned her back to stare at him.

"Did you just talk to me in my head?" Because it had sounded exactly like his deep voice.

Dee gulped, but looked at her brown eyes. "Yes."

"How?"

Again Dee said words that made her want to hit him and scream at the same time. "You're my rumag." He grinned as though he'd heard her intentions.

"Are you going to tell me what that means or not? If not, leave."

The grin dropped at her last word. Then he sighed and moved so that he sat on her windowsill, closing the window behind him. Stopping the cold autumn air from entering.

"Rumag in draca culture means mate."

"Draca?"

"Dragon."

Vivian just blinked at him. Was he a part of one of those weird cult things?

"No, I'm not," he said.

Vivian's eyes widened. She hadn't said that out loud had she?

"No, you didn't. Look, let me explain. Please." The please sounded rusty. As though he didn't say it often. Vivian could believe it, from what she'd seen at school he had anger and manner problems with the teachers. And because of that Vivian nodded.

Dee sighed, was it in relief? Then he laughed, but it didn't sound amused. "I don't know where to start."

"What's draca?" Vivian asked, giving him a place to start.

"Draca is when your talking about one dragon, dracan is when your talking about two or more," Dee said. "Anyway, back in the eighteen-hundreds, my parents said that they were asked by an angel to come to this realm to help the originals and vampyre's fight the darkwalkers." He must have seen or heard Vivian's confusion because he detoured off topic for a moment. "I'll explain in a bit. But before my parents came to this realm, they said that they lived in a realm that was perfect for them. Where they could change their shapes into being magnificent lizards with great leathery wings."

Vivian could tell that Dee wasn't sure about he said. He wasn't sure whether or not he believed it.

"I was born seventeen years ago, so I don't know if it's true. The only thing they kept in this realm was there immortality, strength, speed, quick healing, and their magic."

"So the dracan are dragons that can't shift into dragons but kept everything else when they left their realm for this one."

Dee nodded.

"And they were brought here by an angel to help the originals and vampyre's fight dalkwalkers," Vivian didn't miss that her voice sounded doubtful.
