Magnus:
I could see Sage drowning, I was too. I wanted to save her, but it was too late. That was when it happened. There was a searing in my neck and suddenly, I could breathe. I looked to Sage she could too! It was too much to take in, I turned and to my amazement I could see tiny little gills on a boy named Austin's neck. We had evolved. We could breathe under water!
We re emerged to the surface, swimming with ease, it was fantastic, I couldn't believe what had happened. I turned and looked at Sage who was swimming strongly, she had always struck me as a good swimmer, out by the pool we used to go to. That was over now though, we had a race to save and I was stopping at nothing to complete whatever terrible things we would face. "We need to make a plan!" I was talking to the others, they all turned. " Let's swim as a pack, we need to stick together." They all nodded. It was a proud moment. We continued to swim and were making good progress. Although it was tough, it seemed as though our energy wasn't running out. I'm almost sure that it won't feel that way soon.
A girl named Olivia was falling behind, she screamed as wave crashed over her with more force than imaginable. I tried to help her back up but she was spluttering, as if drowning. I couldn't work out why, that was when I noticed that she had no gills. SLAM! A huge wave slammed into us and she slid out of my arms, I dived under the water but couldn't see her. It was too late. 11 left. Just like that. Sage was clearly upset. That was the girl that spoken to Sage first. Taken her under wing you could say. I hugged her, whispering in her ear "It's ok, we have each other, that's all that matters." With that, we continued. All of us swimming at full speed and showing no signs of stopping.
