Here are some loose ideas I got floating around for character design. Traits I write about may be mixed and matched into new characters or existing ones. For now, names will remain blank.
Different factors to consider: skin color / race / nationality (still trying to decide whether I want the girls to be from different parts of the globe or have all of them be American citizens; both have their advantages), interests / hobbies, carreer / major(s), age, physical flaws, favorite music genre, family background (differing # of siblings)
First of all, I'm going to try to keep the series pretty G-rated. I know it's unrealistic for the average college student to be clean-languaged, nondrinker, non-druggie, and clean-minded, but that will be the case for all of my characters. Despite the characters being much older, I'd say my target audience would be middle school level, I suppose? However, this is subject to change. I may add in some more serious themes that perhaps could raise the maturity level. However, I am not planning on it.
Here are the different characters I am hoping for. I may combine some of these traits.
- Giant afro hairstyle; most likely towards a mixed girl
- Freckles
- Ginger or at least gingerish hair (ex: auburn, strawberry-blonde)
- Glasses
- Braces
- Cheerleader athlete (would like to target a race not stereotypically known for cheerleading and/or being the "cheerleader" stereotype; I'm considering Asian or Pacific Islander)
- Athletic stereotype without being overly tomboyish
- Scientist of a form of science which is barely known about; would like to associate with a race not commonly known for their intelligence; I may make multiple scientists of different branches of science (considering blonde girl or Hispanic ... or maaaaybe bOTH!!!)
- Mortician girl; she's very serious. A bit overly so.
- Professional athlete of a nonmainstream sport, such as ice-skating, fencing, boxing, race car driving, ice hockey, horse racing, snowboarding
- Funky jewelry girl
- Characters who are long-lost twins, coincidentally united in an extremely rare chance. They soon discover each other are sisters, are disgusted (they come from extremely different backgrounds after being adopted), but eventually come to love each other as sisters reunited
