My mother and I were driving back home from my grandma's place after running an errand for her. I stared out the window casually as we drove past someone's house.
That house had a front lawn with a lot of trees. And on the tree closest to the road, there was a doll nailed to the tree by her hair. It was facing the road and everything and was kind of creepy. Did they just forget to take down their Halloween decorations?
After a bit of online research, I conclude the people who live in the house were doing one of these:
- They just did not take down their Halloween decorations,
- Nailing a doll to a tree is a symbol in Japanese culture to either
~ Represent one's hatred of society
~ Represent one's mourning of depressing occurrences
~ It can be used as a form of voodoo for someone you hate
- They just wanted to be really edgy
- They weren't the ones who nailed the doll to the tree and someone else did, perhaps to creep them out.Or -- ORRRR... this is totally it.
They wanted to scare off door-to-door salesmen. Yeah. That's it.
It is so interesting to know the different type of diverse people who live in my upside-down town.
