¨What are you talking about? We are out of high school! We are FREE!¨ I screamed. Diana laughed.
We were currently in the kitchen, of my family's lake house. I was wearing dark blue skinny jeans that felt like jeggings, with a white flowy top, the sleeves had loose lace and lace at the bottom. Diana had on some light blue shorts and a dark purple short sleeve shirt that had a cut out 'x' in the back. We had Bastille playing through the intercom system.
¨All I am saying is that we still need to pay for the pizza. You can't just get free pizza.¨ She was getting the stuff for my favorite dish ever. Oreo Balls! I was melting the chocolate for Scotcharoos. Think of them as a rice krispy treat, but instead of marshmallow it's peanut butter topped with chocolate and butterscotch. They are Diana's favorite.
¨Fine..."I rolled my eyes at Diana's motherly voice. ¨Hey, I'm going to go set up the movie." I said as I placed the desert in the freezer. ¨Be right back.¨
¨Okay. I'll be up here.¨ I nodded as I walked out of the large kitchen and through the smaller living room. If I continued straight I would go in the master bedroom. Instead I turned right and went down stairs. I walked directly into the theater room with peanut butter colored walls. The two black leather couches were covered in large comforters and pillows. I turned on the projector and let it connect to the bluray player.
I walked over to the left of the room and turned on the popcorn machine. I poured the oil, butter, seasoning and kernels in the pot. I closed the door and checked the room. My eyes caught the back door that lead to the backyard and lake. Diana and I already put the jetski in the water. I just needed to fill it up with gas.
¨Oh crap, I forgot."I spoke to myself. I ran up the stairs almost tripping over my own feet on the way up.
¨Woah, dude you okay?¨ Diana said laughing at me. I giggled a little and nodded.
¨I forgot to put gas in the Jet Ski. I'm gonna go do that so we have it for tomorrow. ¨
¨Okay, I will be in here.¨
¨Okay.¨ I close the door and put on my flip flops that were outside the door. Their yellow color was sun faded, but they lasted all last summer and this year. Diana is known for stealing them sometimes.
I picked up the gas can that I left on the porch and walked to the right and around the house.
Rough River. There isn't many people here, except for the weekends. This lake house is miles away from a town and my neighbors are a good hike away. I love how closed off we are. It's like a whole different world rests here. I've been coming to Rough River all my life. Diana has come with me a bit too.
I was about halfway down the large yard when I heard a rustling in the bushes. I looked over to the right, studying the edge of the forest. I didn't think anything of it.
¨It's just a bird or something.¨ I said to myself. I looked down to my left and saw a big stick. It was about half my size in height. I picked it up and swung it as I walked closer to the water.
"We are doing a bonfire, later this week." I said to no one as I looked at the sticks and logs on the grass.
A rustling in the bushes stopped me again. I put down the gas can and found a sandstone rock about the size of my palm on the ground two feet from me. I moved the stick to my left hand and picked up the rock. I threw it into the woods and watched it for a second. A bird flew from a tree. I shrugged and walked on. I sang 'Save Rock and Roll' as I looked around for a minute.
¨I need more dreams
And less life
And I need that dark
In a little more light
I cried tears you'll never see
So fuck you, you can go cry me an ocean
And leave me be
You are what you love
Not who loves you
In a world full of the word yes
I'm here to scream
No, No
Wherever I go, go
Trouble seems to follow¨
I felt a hand wrap around my waist, it was strong and I knew that it wasn't Diana. A fire like heat erupted wherever the hands were making contact. I screamed and swung the stick at the person's face. The stick was stopped by a force and I looked up, instantly regretting it.
I saw a boy, 19 maybe 20, his eyes were a dazzling gold with black flecks that seemed to come more apparent by the second. I was trapped in his eyes.
¨Mine." He spoke, then moved to pull me with him. His eyes let me go and my senses came back. I pulled away from him. His back was to me, I saw his blonde hair that was messed up. I lifted my foot and roundhouse kicked him in the stomach. He doubled over, I screamed and went to run up the hill, until fire licked at my waist as his arms wrapped themselves around my torso. A hand went around my mouth. My back was to his chest, his left hand was holding me to him and his right muffled my screams. I looked at the lake house and screamed as I was carried into the woods.
I stopped fighting and felt tears trying to escape. Must. Be. Strong. I forced the tears back. I felt each step he took. I looked ahead to see his right foot had to step over a log. I waited.
Right as he lifted his foot up, I swiped my right foot under his, making him lose his landing. Somehow he turned us around so I would land on him. I felt us hit the ground, he loosened his grip and I used my left elbow to hit him in the ribs. I stood up, stepped on his chest and ran toward the house. I screamed again hoping Diana would hear me.
I didn't look at where I was going, my right foot got caught on a root. ¨Oh shit!¨ I fell forward and hit my head.
I heard footsteps as darkness surrounded me.
