Warming?

Chapter VII

"Is it ready?" Asked the voice of a  man.

"Yes sir," a woman's voice answered, "we only need to transfer it to the new vessel."

I know there are people around me but I can't see them. My eyes were shut close. I was sleepy but at the same time I was afraid to sleep. I was lying on my back and whatever I'm lying on feels cold and is in direct contact with my skin. I feel naked. I listened around me and all I can hear are beeping sounds, something else sounds like an electric fan but I don't feel any wind and there was the sound of something bubbling. I can smell something weird like a rotten banana and medicine.

"It's time." The man said. "Start transferring the BES to the vessel."

After hearing that I felt like I was on fire. First it was on my wrist, then it crept up my arm, my shoulder, my chest, and it was burning my heart. From my heart it quickly spread to every part of my body. I felt like I was burning from the inside and it was painful. I wanted to shout, to cry and thrash out but my body wouldn't move. It felt like hours that I'm feeling the pain. 

Everything became quiet. 

I can smell something nice around me. I was in a more comfortable bed and I can hear something beating. Then there was a light snoring. 

Wait. 

Snoring?

I forced my eyes to open. I was still in the same spot under the tree in the back garden. I was leaning at something so I looked up and came face to face with a sleeping Xander. I was leaning on his chest that's why I can hear a beating sound. The beating sound of his heart. His mouth was slightly parted where the light snoring came from. He smells so good like the cool ocean breeze.

"I feel asleep huh?" I whispered to myself, " It's that dream again." I sighed but not loudly. I slowly stood up so that I won't wake Xander up and end up talking with him. When I was up, I shook my head lightly, dusted myself and took one last look at Xander then walk away. 

I was walking to my car in the parking lot when I saw Rae leaning on her car beside mine. She looked like she was going to smash the phone she was holding. She looked up as I was approaching her and I can see relief in her features. She stood straight and crossed her arms on her chest while glaring at me.

"Where the fuck have you been?!" she asked, " I was so worried when you didn't come to class for the whole afternoon!" 

"I fell asleep in the back garden." I shrugged. 

" You fell asleep for the whole afternoon?" she asked doubtfully.

"I didn't notice I fell asleep." I answered her, "I was sitting under a tree listening to music then when I woke up it was already this late."

"Gosh! I was so worried! I tried calling your number but it's unreachable." she said.

"Empty battery" I answered her.

"At least now I know that you're safe." She sighed and then she looked excited. " Anyway, mom called and she wanted to meet you and invited us for dinner."

"Your mom?" I answered rising an eyebrow at her. I know she doesn't have a mom because she told me that her mom died a few weeks after she was born.

"Yup."  she answered popping the 'P'

"What time do I need to be there?" I asked.

" Dinner starts at 7 but come earlier," she smiled, "I want you to meet my sister and maybe bond a little."

" Okay. I'll be there-"I realized something, "where exactly do you live?"

"I'll text you the address and the direction to get there." she answered as she opened her car door.

" Okay." I replied opening my own.

"Bye!" she shouted as she drove off.

I was going out of the school gate when I saw Xander walking towards the parking lot. I drove off not even bothering to slow down or look at him. I know I'm acting like a bitch but I don't really care because he still acted like an asshole and made me center of attraction, more like center of hate. I drove straight home and started to get ready for the dinner. I took a quick half bath and wore a white T-shirt with the print 'KILLER' on it, ripped jeans, and black DC shoes. I don't have to wear glasses so I left them on my bedside table. I went downstairs  and took my keys from the hanger, checked to make sure everything I need is with me, then I turned off the lights inside but not outside. Then off I go.
