The storm had cleared up wonderfully and Liz had decided to go out on a walk around the neighborhood. She had made her way farther than she had expected to and ended up at a nearby market. Liz had been walking, staring at her shoes when she heard a baby cry in front of her. The mother who was carrying the baby boy had her back against Liz and the baby was staring at Liz, over his mum's shoulder. Once the baby had settled down, a pang of shock and fear went through Liz's body. The baby's face looked so familiar. But why? He had thin lips and narrow, almost almond-shaped eyes.
Almond-shaped eyes.
That's how Paul always referred to John's eyes.
Liz hurried to the mother and glanced at her.
She was so young. She couldn't have been much older than Liz. The young mother had a look of shyness on her face and looked extremely vulnerable and fragile.
"Excuse me?" Liz asked.
The girl looked at her in fear. "C-can I help you?" She asked in a high voice.
"Sorry, it's just...your baby reminded me of a friend." Liz said awkwardly.
"Oh..."
"His name was John." Liz blurted out.
The girl's eyes widened in shock.
"L-Lennon?" The girl muttered.
Liz nodded. "Do you know him?"
The girl nodded. "Why did you say 'was'?"
"Oh...well John actually passed away not too long ago." Liz explained.
"Oh my God." The girl shrieked.
"Are you alright?" Liz asked. "Here, come sit." Liz helped as she got the girl and her son to the bench.
"So...John...he's dead?" The mother asked again.
"I'm afraid so." Liz sulked.
"How?" The girl asked.
"I'm sorry- but how do you know John?" Liz asked, wondering why the girl asked so many questions about John.
"Uh...John...he's the...the...father of Julian, here. My names Lucy by the way." She said shyly.
Why hadn't John told Liz? Surely he knew that he had gotten a girl pregnant.
"Oh...I didn't know he was a fa-" Liz began to say.
"He knew." Lucy cut her off. "As soon as I told him he had just ran away. I thought he had moved somewhere, I didn't know he died."
"Yea...it-it was suicide actually." Liz said even though the word itself made her cringe. "He shot himself."
Lucy let out a small scream.
"I was actually a very close friend of John's. It was...it was in my house...that he...uh...passed." Liz admitted.
"Oh." Lucy mumbled, not knowing what to say.
"Please, if you're not busy, come to my boyfriend's house for dinner tonight. He and another one of my friends were very close to John. I'm sure they'd want to meet you." Liz offered.
Lucy agreed. "Thank you."
Lucy and Julian headed to the market and Liz went home.
By the time she got there, she was infuriated. She bursted through the door, shocking Paul and George.
"What's wrong, Love?" George asked.
"I cannot believe he didn't tell me!" Liz shouted and ran to her and George's room.
