Paul tried to fall asleep and escape the tragedy that had just happened for a little bit. But he couldn't. He stared at the dark ceiling and cried. His best mate- gone. Liz was able to sleep a little but not for very long.

"Paul?" She whispered.

"Yes?" He said trying not to cry.

"I miss him." She muttered.

"I miss him, too." Paul said as his voice cracked.

Liz put her head on Paul's chest and cried. She heard his heartbeat and realized that she should be grateful that he still had one.

"Are we dreaming?" Paul asked.

"I hope so." Liz said, able to see the slightest bit of light in Paul's eyes from the moon's reflection.

Liz wrapped her legs around Paul's and pulled him close.

"Tell me it's just a big nightmare." She muttered.

"I wish it was, Love. I wish it was." Paul said in between sniffs.

"Liz?" Paul asked.

"Hmm?"

"I was looking through the journal that John left when he...never mind. But I was looking through the different songs and one of the first was called, "Getting Better" and I think it was for you. Actually I think there were a lot for you but this one seemed to be about John thinking that you two would become close again. So... I thought you might want to hear it."

"Can you sing it to me?" Liz asked, desperately wanting to hear it.

"Well...I'm not really sure how the tune is...but I'll try." Paul said.

"Please!" Liz whimpered.

"I used to be cruel to my woman

I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved

Man, I was mean but I'm changing my scene

And I'm doing the best that I can

I admit it's getting better

A little better all the time

Yes, I admit it's getting better, it's getting better

Since you've been mine"

Liz began to cry more.

"What's wrong?" Paul asked.

"You singing John's song...it's like a perfect match....Paul...I think when John left, he left part of him in you."

Paul turned on the lamp near them.

"Why'd you do that?" Liz asked, trying to adjust her eyes to the sudden light.

"I wanted to see your beautiful face before I kissed you." Paul said leaning towards her.

He put his hand gently under her chin and lifted up her tear-covered face to his. Paul kissed her passionately and she did the same back. They looked at each other and managed a smile.

"Y'know... Me mum...before she died...she used to tell me something. Whenever something bad happened or something that you just couldn't change, she always told me to let it be. And...maybe that's what we should do; we should just let it be." Paul said as the two laid down again.

Liz gave him a kiss on the cheek and nodded.

"I-I'll try." Liz muttered.

"Don't worry, we'll do it together." He said as he gave her one last kiss before the two managed to fall asleep.
