Chapter 14
Two days had passed and Drew was starting to cope with the changes of his body. Every so often his eyes would go and when they went to cause a little chaos, he tended to let go with himself and by the afternoon he looked a completely new person. Roan had bought him a leather jacket with some new jeans and a green and black t-shirt. She styled his hair up and made him look worth staring at.
They had come closer into another town and that's when Drew noticed what they had been looking for.
"Roan, it's number two! Over there look!" He pointed to a boy sprinting across the road and towards the clump of shops and cafes'. Four people were chasing him and he was running closer into the town. Roan watched as the boy picked up speed and raced into the town. The Hunters behind him were on hover boards and not too far behind.
"Are you sure its him?" Roan asked as she parked her car on the side of the road.
"Roan of course I know its him, I've seen the picture thousands of times since we got it." they both climbed out of the car and used their speed to find them. They tracked them down and Roan tied the mask over her face. She made sure it was secure before running past people walking with shopping bags and holding the hands of partners and children. It wasn't a very big town, just a local one. It had an awful lot of café's and jewellery shops and the odd vintage shop, but nothing major.
Roan and Drew raced through streets to near a river just on the outskirts. The boy was running out of options of places to go. He ran up the river, but he was only heading to a dead end. As he came right to the end and electric fence into some woodland stopped him. He turned around.
"We've caught you before Two and we will catch you again." The biggest Hunter snarled. To be honest they couldn't have been any older the victim himself, but they acted as if they were in charge.
"Step away from him." Roan growled. The Hunters all turned around and looked at her.
"You." One of the girls said.
"You're the girl in the mask."
"The Unknown."
"Get her!" They all started crowding around here and Roan pulled out her sword and Drew took out his knives.
"Run and get as far away as you can!" Roan yelled. The boy nodded at her and clicked his fingers. Roan knew it was risky for him to do this as you needed to concentrate, but he disappeared. He owed her now and she had met him and saved him. When he had gone the Hunter's stopped fighting Roan and she took off her mask.
"Thanks guys, you did well." She said.
"No problem, you're part of our team Roan and you're doing something good." Derek, the biggest said. "By the way Stella is really worried about you Drew."
"Tell her I'm sorry, but I was devoured and had to get away to transform. Tell her I will see her again. I promise."
Derek nodded slowly and backed up a little.
"I'm sorry to hear it. So why have you come with Roan? I mean she's human, so wouldn't that be dangerous?" He asked. Panicking Roan made something up quickly. Drew was about to say something, but Roan was faster with words.
"We just bumped into each other. That's how we got here so fast is that I got on his back and he took me away. So if you want to kill him, you have to get through me." She said. The guy held up his hands.
"I wouldn't even if I wanted to. No Drew has helped us all, I wouldn't kill him in a million years." He said.
"Thank you Derek. Look we'll see you around." Drew shook hands with his old ally and they left Roan and Drew alone.
