Chapter 34
The fire was warm against Roan's skin as she sat in front of it. A glass of Weakness at her side and the warm orange glow on her face. It had been a full two weeks now since Liam had gone and she was starting to doubt him coming back. Darren and Lewis had been in and out of the house on search's, but they found nothing. Liam wouldn't have made it that simple.
Roan pulled the sleeves of her jumper over her hands and pulled her knees close into her chest. She had been sat there for hours now and it was half one when Hazel came in.
"Roan you really should get some sleep." She yawned coming and sitting down next to her.
"And why do you care?" Roan asked.
"I don't, I just want the fire to myself. I'm freezing." She said. Roan smirked and they both stared into the flickering flames. Every breath they took, it seemed to move the fire backwards and then it regained it's normal state.
"You know Roan, I want you to know something." Hazel said looking at Roan, who nodded. "I know how much Liam has hurt you and I know how much it's frustrating you. If you ever want revenge or just to irritate him, my arms are open to you. You may have some good use to me and I want to use you in a way no one will. It's a chance I'm offering you and I suggest you take it." She said.
"I'll think about it."
"Ok, but it's a limited time offer." Hazel warned. Roan nodded.
"Thanks Hazel." Roan said.
"My pleasure." She said getting up. "Please go to bed soon though or Jake will kill you in the morning." She said.
"I'd like to see him try."
"I've always admired your courage. Maybe that's why I need you on my side." She said vanishing from the room. Roan stared into the heart of the fire and tried to have a think. She heard Hazel heading back upstairs and told herself to hit the hay in fifteen minutes, at least it was a Saturday. That was when she heard it. The sound of someone walking in the hall. She felt the presence of someone entering the house and she knew who it was. They moved around a little and then Darren came out of a room and started having a conversation with them. Roan rolled her eyes and got ready for her speech. She wasn't sure what she was going to say, but it would come to her.
Liam pushed open the door and smiled when he saw Roan sitting in front of the fire.
"You're up late." He said. She didn't turn around.
"You're back late. Two weeks late." She said with a wooden and harsh tone.
"I'm sorry Roan it's just..."
"Oh I'm not complaining!" She said, still not turning round. "You know, I found out a hell of a lot this week, while you were gone. It was quite helpful actually. Your dad told me everything Liam. After putting me out to burn in the sun he told me your secret. It was your fault."
"It was my fault?"
"Don't play the innocent, because you know what I mean! You got my parents kidnapped!" She shouted turning and facing him.
"Roan I..."
"I helped you out! We were friends, my parents treated you as one of their own, wasn't that enough for you?" She asked him. "You had a deadline and you should have stuck to it." She said walking towards him. "I was almost killed three times these last two weeks and Jake and Hazel have been no better. You shouldn't have left, but then again you're selfish and self-centred!" She shouted, in his face. "You know your sister has been a good mate to me, a shed load better then you ever were. Don't think apologising is going to help, because I'm not going to forgive you and I never will." She said pushing passed him and knocked his shoulder back.
