Chapter 32
A week had passed and Liam still hadn't returned. Roan had spent most of her week in her room, on the floor, by the fire or curled up on the sofa. No one spoke to her and just let her sulk. She dropped her bag on the sofa as she sat down for her breakfast.
"Is Liam still not back?" Jake asked no one in particular.
"No." Darren said simply.
"Good riddance." Roan muttered.
"What?" Hazel asked.
"You heard." Roan snapped standing back up again and grabbing her bag. She hadn't eaten anything, she wasn't hungry. She hadn't been all week. She stormed out into the Hall and Jake chased after her.
"Roan please tell me what's going on!" He said. She clicked her fingers and disappeared. Jake sighed and went back into the living room.
"Dad what is wrong with her? She hasn't spoken to anyone, since the afternoon after Liam disappeared. Now she doesn't want him back. What did you say to her?" He asked.
"The truth she deserved to hear." Lewis said simply.
Roan had ended up in the middle of an art classroom, on the other side to the entrance of the school. She didn't care how badly she had miscalculated it. She went to the door and realised it was locked. She swore under her breath, which she didn't do often, and went to a window. She stuck her head out and stared at the security camera to her left. It was on the corner of the building. After thirty seconds it began smoking and she knew it had shut down. She chucked her bag out of the window and then stood on the table she was kneeling on. Breathing in and out she bent down on one knee. She relaxed as much as she could and let the animal take over. She began to transform in the black panther she had longed to be and leapt straight out of the window. When she was out, she let the human take back over again. She picked up her bag and ran round the back of the school to the entrance. She walked through the door and as she did Hazel and Jake appeared. She quickly walked away and went down to the English corridor, where Faye stood waiting.
"Hey! Enjoy your half term?" She asked. "Where's Liam?" She asked.
"It was all right, he wasn't feeling too great I think he's caught what I had." She said.
"Poor Liam." She said. She knew Roan was living with Liam and the reason was that Lewis was looking after her because her 'single-mother' was in hospital from a car crash. It was a believable lie and Faye had fallen for it anyway.
"Yeah poor Liam." Roan mimicked in a harsh tone.
"Why you speaking like that? What's happened?" Faye asked. Roan just looked away. "What happened Roan?" Faye asked.
"It's not worth explaining, but I'm finding it hard to forgive him. Just an argument, but I am not accepting an apology. I need more then that." Roan said.
"Wow this has really got to you then. You'll be all right in a few days, I know you two." She said.
"Mmm." Roan sighed and got to work.
She was glad when she was in art because she could sit, draw and think. She sat and looked at her drawing, perfecting it, adding shading and colour. It was looking rather good when he teacher came over.
"Roan?" She asked. Roan looked up. "Will you go to Science three, Mr Space wants to see you about giving Liam some homework."
"Sorry Miss but who's Mr Space? Liam's science teacher is Mrs Volt."
"I'm not sure Roan, it's just an email he sent me." She said. Roan sighed and reluctantly left the room. She owed Liam nothing and why did the teacher want to see her now? She hated teachers like this.
