19: Overprotective

"Knock, knock."

You looked from your laptop that you were using for studying for your upcoming finals. Chestnut laid, curled up at the foot of your bed. You rose an eyebrow at Henry's proclaim instead of actually knocking on your door. He was leaning against your doorframe with the usually charming smile.

"Uh," you uttered, "Come in?"

He chuckled at your response and walked in to sit next to you on your queen size bed. He laid besides you and leaned against your right shoulder with his left cheek. He watched you continued to work out problems online.

Chestnut saw the contact between you two and whined at you. You pet her to calm her down but she still didn't like the boy that was still on your shoulder. Chestnut climbed over you and nudged in between the two of you to separate from contact. Henry yelped when he was pushed off the bed.

"Henry," you cried out in shock, "Are you okay?"

"Fine," he groaned, "What's wrong with Chestnut?"

"I don't know." You looked at the satisfied dog that went back to the foot of your bed once more. "I think she doesn't like you."

"What?" Henry scoffed, "She's the one who jumped and licked me when I rescued her. And even if she didn't, she would be growling at me."

"She looked pretty close to it," you added with a shrug.

Henry had an idea but he wanted to confirm it before he came to a conclusion. You were caught off guard when he suddenly wrapped his arms around you and laid his head on your shoulder again.

"Henry?" you called.

Just as Henry suspected, Chestnut came back over and nudged in between you two. Henry was pushed off the bed again but since he saw it coming, he caught himself.

"It's not that she doesn't like me. She just doesn't like me near you," he concluded.

"Huh..." you looked at your dog strangely. She just nudged your hands, wanting attention. You gave her what she wanted and she rubbed up against you in response. "Or she just doesn't like the attention I'm giving to you."

Henry glared at Chestnut and when she rolled back over, she looked at him with a blank stare.

"Already getting attached to her, huh?" Henry mumbled to her.

Her response was a bark like setting up for a challenge.

"Is my dog and boyfriend really getting into a competitive fight?" You shook your head in disbelief.

Henry smirked as he leaned in to you. "God, I love hearing that coming from your lips." Your cheeks heated when you finally realized what you said and at the close distance between you and Henry. He loved seeing the hue on your cheeks. He leaned in to close the gap. It was only a second Henry managed to kiss you when Chestnut attacked him with her own kisses.

"Chestnut!"

You couldn't help but laugh and cackle at your dog attacking your boyfriend with kisses. Toothless must have heard the commotion when he ran in the room but he didn't help his master at all. You laughed harder when you saw Toothless join Chestnut in the licking.
