"Your idea of a first date would be a walk in the park with our dogs," you breathed in, "at six in the morning."
"Yep."
"In the freezing cold," you added.
"Yep."
You scowled with a playful pout. "I hate you."
"No, you don't." You choked slightly on a squeak when Henry stopped and bumped your red nose with a peck. You rolled your eyes and rubbed your nose from the slight tickle. "Besides, I have more in plan than just a walk in the park."
You furrowed your eyebrows. "I don't know if I should take as offensive considering you just told me I'm easy."
Henry gave you an appalled and shocked look towards. "No!"
You waved it off jokingly. "Kidding, but what exactly do you have in mind?"
"It's a surprise, but for now, we're going to be training for Chestnut," he answered.
You replied with a confused look. "I thought Chestnut was already trained."
He shook his head but stop to think for a moment. He mumbled, "Well, we do have to work on somethings for what happened a few days ago." He glared slightly at the dog causing you to raise an eyebrow. Chestnut just barked in reply. "But what I mean is we're going to train you."
"Me?"
"Yes," Henry nodded, "This is your first time owning a pet, right?"
You nodded in response.
"Then we'll be training you on how to be an owner."
You put your hands on your hips and looked up in thought. "Okay," you trailed, "I think I understand what you mean. Care to show me, oh-great-dog-master?"
"Sure thing, milady," he winked at you. This caused you to giggle. He whistled Toothless over. "Eventually," he started, "you'll be able to do this with Chestnut." He pulled out a treat. "Sit boy," he commanded. Toothless did just that. "Stay," Henry repeated. Henry placed the treat on the dog's nose and Toothless held still like his master told him. "Good boy," he phrased, "Catch." On his own, Toothless tossed the treat from his nose and caught it in his mouth. He ate happily on the treat.
"Okay, but what does that have to do anything with my training?" you asked.
"Your pet has to see you as the master," he informed, "If the dog sees you as an equal, they won't listen to you as much as you would like."
"Makes sense..."
"Let's start with the basics."
Throughout the morning, the two of you did exercises like walking Chestnut on a leash, changing your tones with simple commands (sit, lay, stay, etc.), and throwing a tennis ball. When walking Chestnut on a leash, she had to stay aside you or slightly behind you. You had no problem even with some adjustments. You didn't think your voice tone was that important until you actually tried it out. Who knew the smallest things could be a big deal?
"And the most important thing to remember when you have a dog is to be calm and assertive," he finished.
"Wow," you awed, "I didn't think there would be so much in owning a dog."
"It develops the character quite well," Henry shrugged, "Sorry if this wasn't the ideal first date you were hoping for."
You shook your head immediately. "No, if anything it was different. I thought it was going to be cliché at first when you pulled me to the park but you tweaked it in your own way." You smiled up at him genuinely.
Henry held down a hue when he saw you grin up at him like that. He leaned down and closed the gap between you and him. His lips kisses yours in adoration. You two parted but your faces were still close to each other. His eyes looked into yours in glee. Both of your eyelids were heavy but not in lust.
"What was that for?" you asked when you two parted lips.
"I can't kiss my girlfriend?" he chuckled.
Almost after, Henry was jumped and tackled by Chestnut on his chest. He cried out when Chestnut started licking him. You giggled at the repeated sight. Toothless came up beside you and sat patiently while staring at his master getting a bath.
"Chestnut, off!" he demanded.
Chestnut obeyed and went to your opposite side of where Toothless was at to sit. Henry leaned on his hands behind him while he glared at the husky. He wiped his cheek with the back of his hand.
"It's a good thing you like this date because I already know what we're doing on our second date."
