Chapter Eight

***

"Garrison!" I yelled, running to his room. Once I reached it, I opened his door, making it slam against the wall. He jumped and shot out of his bed. I can see why.

Right now, it is 2:30 in the morning and I couldn't sleep because I couldn't help but think if Garrison told Asher. He looked at me, dazed and confused. He sat up and ran a shaky hand over his chest.

"Jesus Elle. You scared me," he whisper yelled, his voice groggy from sleep. I rolled my eyes.

"Man up," I said, sitting at the edge of the bed. He threw his hands in the air.

"Oh yeah, man up. Okay..." he said sarcastically. "You ran into my room screaming like someone just died and you are telling me to man up-"

"Did you tell Asher?" I asked. He cocked his head to the side and his eyebrows pulled together.

"Tell Asher what, exactly?" he asked dumbly. I cracked my neck.

"Did you tell Asher about Alex?"

"What the he--no," he said, shaking his head violently. I let out a breath of relief. "I would let you do that, not me."

"He said he--" I paused, thinking back to his plan. I shook my head. "You know what, never mind. Thank you Garr. Goodnight," I said, getting up and heading to my room, shutting my door.

I sat on my bed, head in my hands. I kept taking heavy breaths.

"No, I didn't play dumb with your brother. I don't know your little secret," I heard a voice say. I looked over and saw Asher and all his glory, sticking out his window. The moon hit his shirtless body, making it glow. "You done checking me out." I rolled my eyes and got up, slamming my window and closing my curtains. I sat on my bed.

'He can't be serious.' I thought. 'After everything he had just pulled at the hospital, he thinks things will be fine between us...I promised myself that I wouldn't trust another outside boy after Alex, and Asher makes that way too simple'

I sighed and looked at my outfit in my full length mirror while fixing my straightened brown hair. I thought I looked decent enough with my black sweats, cropped white t-shirt, over sized cardigan, and white vans.

I threw on my black backpack and headed downstairs where Garrison was stuffing his face with Cheerios. I chuckled and grabbed a bowl myself, filling it with Cheerios. '

"Who said you could have my cereal?" Garrison asked, his mouth full of food.

"Uhm, I live under this roof so this is my food too," I said, pouring my milk. "And don't talk with your mouth full." I sat next to Garrison and we started a conversation, mainly about last night.

"So, why did you barge into my room at 2:30 this morning to ask about Asher?" he asked. I rolled my eyes at Asher's name.

"Well, when he talked to me at the hospital, he wanted to know why he kept having to get into fights with Alex--" I said and he stopped me after I said that.

"Wait, Asher is getting into fights with Alex?" he asks, dumbfounded.

"Have you been living under a rock?" He shrugs.

"Apparently cause I haven't heard about any fight between him and Alex."

"Well, I don't know. They have only gotten into two fights that I have known of and when he came yesterday he told me. He also wanted to know why he had to keep getting into these fights-" I started, swinging my spoon in the air.

"I told him that I don't ask him to get into these fights but he kept bugging. He then told me that he had a plan to get it out of you and then he left. It was bugging and and I just, kind of, lost it." His eyes widened.

"Lost it? You ran into my room yelling at 2:30 in the freaking morning yelling my name. You kind of lost it?"

"Out of everything that I just told you, that is all you got out of it?"

"No, maybe. You and Asher got into a fight about Alex, yatta yatta yatta," he said, getting up and placing his bowl in the sink. I laughed and shook my head. I got up and placed my bowl in the sink as well, and stood next to him.

"Will you give me a ride?" I asked as we started for the door. He opened it and I followed him out, shutting the door behind me.

"Of course, especially after what had happened, I don't think you will be driving for a long while," he replied over his shoulder. I rolled my eyes and got in the passenger seat of our black Toyota Camry.

When we pulled up to school, all eyes were on us. Mainly because Garrison and I were talking and hanging out, and the other because I looked like I came out of the dump. I mentally shrugged. Garrison walked me to my locker, while having a conversation.

I missed two years of this. I missed two years of Garrison walking me to my locker and having fun and weird conversations with him because of situations and him being popular. I have to take this in while I can because, next year, I'll be stuck here and he'll be in college.

"Here, take my math book," I said, slamming my heavy math book against his built chest. He breathed once it made contact with him.

"That hurt little sis," he said, rubbing where I hit him. I smiled and rolled my eyes. I looked forward and saw him. I rolled my eyes and continued to talk to Garrison. He walked up to me and grabbed my forearm, his strong grip making me wince. I looked up at him and he released, his eyes soft and sorry.

"I need to talk to you," he said, barley a whisper.

"Yeah, well, I don't so leave," I responded harshly. I could tell all he wanted to do was say sorry but he pushed it. I have my secrets and I certainly know he has his, but I don't say to him that I am going to ask your family if you don't tell me.

"Please. Elle," he pleaded. I looked at my brother and he was standing straight up, hands crossed over his chest. I licked my lips and turned back to him.

"You have five minutes, Asher," I said and he grabbed my wrist, dragging my out of school and towards the courtyard.
