Mac needed to get out of these canyons.
It had been a week since Beth left, and Mac hadn't been coping well. He was in a constant hangover, he was running out of money, and he hadn't had any meth in that week. Walter hadn't been over to his house much.
He just needed to leave. There were too many reminders of Beth at the house.
So he packed up. He packed only the essentials; clothes, food, and a couple knives. You never know. He was packing his tiny suitcase when his phone started ringing. Still packing, he answered.
"Yeah?" He asked, looking around the room one last time.
"Hey lil bro!" Ugh, not now.
"Whatdya want, Merle?" Mac demanded, stuffing his last wife beater into the suitcase.
"What? I can't call my favorite half-brother on ma birthday?" Merle demanded, feigning being hurt.
"I'm kinda busy right now." Mac muttered.
"That's cool, that's cool." Merle said. "I was just wonderin' if ya could come down for a bit. Ya know, make some of that magic."
Mac groaned. He did not need Merle reminding him that he'd gone a week without that drug. "I'm kinda busy at the moment."
"Fine. I just thought I'd ask. After all, I'm sure you can get seven grand somewhere else." Merle said with a sigh. Mac paused, however. Seven grand? He could start a new life with that!
"What time's the party?" Mac demanded, throwing some food into a backpack.
"There ya go! Now the party's at my place in five days. You remember how to get there, right?" He asked.
"Yeah yeah, Fairview Lane." Mac muttered, throwing the backpack over his shoulder. "But I'm gonna have to make it there. Can't risk goin' over the state borders with it in my truck."
"Fair enough, fair enough. I got most of the stuff here, jus' missin' a few ingredients." Merle stated.
"What all do I need?"
Merle gave him the list, which Mac had. He'd need to stop by the lab first. "Alright, imma let ya go do I can get the stuff. See ya in a few days." He muttered, hanging up on Merle. Merle was an insufferable asshole, but he'd give Mac a fresh start. And then...
Beth lived in Georgia too.
He groaned inwardly. Knowing that he'd be in the same state as Beth would kill him. She'd be so close...
Mac shook his head. He needed to get over her. Besides, he didn't even know where she lived. She could be anywhere in Georgia, and he'd never find out.
Mac threw his bags into the truck, then, with one last walk through the house, he was off.
