The next day Beth was released from the hospital. She hadn't seen Mac since she had told him to go. Despite herself, she was missing him. Seeing that he was so close to tears had physically made her heart ache. But now she was going home. Without him. Shawn had brought her clothes from back home, and Beth liked being back in her old clothes. But she also wanted Mac to come in and rip them off again.

As Shawn paid for the hospital bill, Beth stood off to the side staring around awkwardly. She'd forgotten what it was like to be around so many people. She didn't like it.

Shawn then grabbed her hand and led her out of the building, still feeling like dozens of eyes were on her as she headed to Shawn's blue truck. When she crawled into the passengers side, she couldn't help but remember all the times she rode in Mac's truck. She couldn't get the thought of him out of her head. She wanted him now that she'd been away from him. But was she ready to forgive him for what he did? He drove her to try to kill herself! Sure it may have been unintentional, but still. She honestly wasn't sure if she'd be able to see him again.

But the familiar feeling of needing was settling inside her again. She needed him, but she could never go back. She knew Shawn and her father would never let her come back to this place, and she couldn't really blame them. She stared out the window in silence, her thoughts on Mac. God did she miss him. She wanted him back, she wanted him to hold her again, she wanted to kiss him, she wanted to fuck him; she wanted him. Would he want her?

She knew the answer to that question right away. She knew Mac was probably missing her, after all he'd cried for the first time in front of her.

But had he really cheated? Or was he lying and just trying to hurt her? That would've been a childish move, but she could understand why he'd made that move. After all, he had thought she'd aborted the baby. But he shouldn't just automatically assume things like that. They should've talked things out instead of him running off to the bar to get wasted again. Maybe she shouldn't have been so rash tried to kill herself. It had been unnecessary. She still loved him, though. And now she's probably never see him again.

Tears started welling in her eyes at the idea that she'd never see Mac. She wanted him back it physically hurt her. The beautiful red canyons flew by them, but they weren't beautiful anymore. They weren't beautiful without Mac. God she missed him.

Shawn reached over and grabbed her hand carefully, and when he did she jumped a little. Shawn gazed sympathetically at his little sister. "I am so sorry you had to go through that," he murmured, "I can't imagine what he must've done to you."

Beth didn't respond. Yes the first week had been terrible, but he had made up for it in the weeks that followed. She even loved him, and he loved her. After all he had taken her to the hospital to be saved, and he had apologized to her. Mac didn't seem like the kind of guy to apologize, so it must've been a pretty big feat for him.

It took about 4 days and 3 nights to get back to Georgia. Now Shawn and Beth were driving up the dirt road towards their house. The big white house that she hadn't seen in so long. Beth's tears had since dried up, but her heart still felt hollow and cold, like the spot Mac had filled was gone. She felt numb. She still wanted Mac. Part of her hoped that he'd come find her in Georgia and take kidnap her. She'd love that.

The drive up to the house was too short for Beth, and in no time at all Hershel, Annette, Glenn, and Maggie were running out of the house, straight to her.

Maggie was the first to reach her,  and her half-sister threw her arms around her, holding her tightly and giving her cheek kisses, whispering "Thank you, God. Thank you."

Glenn was next. He just smiled awkwardly and gave her a brief hug. "Glad you're back, Beth." He said with an innocent smile.

Then finally Annette and Hershel. Annette was sobbing as she held Beth tightly to her chest, crying all over her shoulder. Hershel wrapped his arms around her from behind, giving her head kisses as well.

Finally, after about five minutes of hugging, Beth was freed. She smiled weakly at everyone, more tears running down her cheeks. She was home with her family, even though someone was missing.

Mac.
