Today was going to be a good day for me. Today was my 16th birthday! OMG I was so excited. I'm finally 16, the older I get, the closer I am to getting the hell out of this house. Damn, I couldn't do anything. Pops and mother were already on me because I've been "sneaking" boys into the house. I mean I have but maybe I wouldn't if they would just let them come. The only guy they'll allow to come over for me is Brian. He was my best friend, and I would never think about him in that way. I unlocked my phone and seen my friends and classmates had blow up my messages and social media with shootouts, paragraphs, and pictures. Awwww how sweet. I turned on my lamp which gave my room some type of orange effect. I got on my knees and posed for a pic in my mirror on side my bed then took the pic and posted it.

An argument was coming so I just turned off my notifications. I was about to get up when two people bursted through my door. I was not shocked.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KENNN" my pops and mother sang in sync loudly. I just smiled and shook my head. They had a small cake in their hands. Then Ethan came in
"Really Ken!?" He showed me his phone referring to those comments under my pic
"What you want me to do!?"
"STOP TALKING TO MY FRIENDS! AND STOP POSTING PICS LIKE THIS!" He gave the phone to my pops
"Like what?" Mother asked trying to look at the phone. Pops whole facial expression changed
"Really Kenyanna? You are basically naked. Do you know once you post stuff like this it never goes away?" He started fussing. I mentally rolled my eyes. "Delete it. Matter of fact. Deactivate your page"
"DEACTIVATE!? MOTHER!" I looked to her for support
"Why me? Walter don't you think you're going a little bit too far?" She asked looking at him
"NO!" Pops and Ethan yelled at the same time
"I think it is" I rolled my eyes
"Of course you do." Ethan rolled his eyes back at me. "Usually when your friends try to talk to your sister. You tell your sister how much of a hoe he is. But in my case I have to tell my friends how much of a hoe my sister is."
"ETHAN CARTER! DONT YOU EVER TALK TO YOUR SISTER LIKE THAT!" Mother popped him in his head
"I'm not shocked nor hurt. Because everybody tells me stuff like that and all they get is a pop and a fuss. Wow. But when I get in trouble I get a whole lecture" I shrugged and was about to walk away
"Don't walk away when I'm fussing at you!" Pops yelled
"Look this isn't getting anywhere to be honest. It's my birthday. I was doing fine until now. I don't feel like hearing this" I was about to walk away again
"Kenyanna! Listen to your father" mother said crossing her arms
"You are a young lady. Women don't carry themselves like this! Ass sticking out with no pants on!? Having boys fuss over you under the pic! Are you kidding me Kenyanna!?" He stared at me.
"So what's my punishment?" I said with extra attitude
"Punishment?" Pops chuckled. "Your birthday is cancelled! You're not allowed to turn 16!"
"CANCELLED!?" I screamed. Ethan started laughing
"Yes cancelled." He blew the candles out on my cake
"Walter stop that. You are going too overboard"
"No rose! First she's sneaking boys in the house and now she posting these pornographic pics online?" He shook his head
"PORNOGRAPHIC!? You know what fuck it!" I didn't realize what I said
"LANGUAGE YOUNG LADY!" Mother grabbed my arm
"when did you start acting like this? It's like I don't even know you any more." Pops looked at me with disappointment
"Stop treating me like a kid. It's like as I get older, the more of a baby I get treated like. I'm not a kid any more"
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEN!" Odell said walking in with sunglasses on and a gift in his hand. I rolled my eyes and went into my bathroom, slamming the door
"Did I walk in at a bad time?" Odell asked
"YES." They all said in unison
I sat on the toilet and cried. How could he cancel my birthday? So what I posted that? It's my page, I should post what I want. I heard a knock on my door
"I'm dead." I yelled
"Stop playing and get out of there" mother told me. I opened my door and wiped my eyes. Everyone was in my room.
"Ken I can not believe you would post such a provocative picture. I am astonished at you" Odell gasped and put his hand over his chest. I quickly flipped him off and crossed my arms
"What's this all about?"
"Your brother and father owe you an apology. We want your 16th birthday to be special! We want you to enjoy this day because you only turn 16 once you know. I don't want you to remember your birthday like this" mother rubbed my back
"I'm sorry for calling you a hoe. I was wrong, but I was just mad I guess. I know my friends and I know you. So I just don't want y'all to interact at all. I'm sorry again. Happy birthday" Ethan said fast then hugged me
"I apologize sincerely Ken. You're my baby girl and it's just sad to watch your children grow and go away. I don't want you to grow up sadly. But I know I have to let you go eventually. It's just hard Ken. I never want to let you go." Pops Hugged me
"Pops I have to get older. It's apart of life. I'm sorry you feel that way but everybody has to go through letting their children free. And I'm sorry about that picture. It was totally inappropriate and I deleted it. I realized I was too young to be posting stuff like that. I'm sorry to you and Ethan" I looked over at Ethan. We all hugged
"Yay a big happy family again! Once again mother saves the day! Now I can finally give you my gift to you which is the best gift ever" Odell smiled and got the bag back out. We all laughed.
He was right. Mother always saved the day. Not just for me but for everybody.
