Chapter Four: The Annoucement

CHAPTER FOUR

••Katniss's POV••

I have science with Peeta. After that fiasco I'm sure he'll find out that I like him and I'm sure he doesn't like me.

When I get into class, the only seat left is next to Peeta. Again.

When I sit down, I don't look at him and keep my head trained at Mr.Flavius, the science teacher, until Peeta puts a piece of paper between my left elbow and the desk. I keep my head on Mr.Flavius while I pick up the note with my right hand.

It says: "Thanks Katniss. She really gets on my nerves." I pick up my pencil and write: "No prob. It wasn't a big deal." And pass the note to Peeta.

Peeta writes back and this is how we spend the rest of the class:

Peeta: "Okay. Thanks again. Did you hear that Principal Snow is moving the Games up?"

Me: "OH MY GOD NO! THAT'S AWFUL! I HATE HOW HE DOES THIS. IT'S NOT FAIR!"

Peeta: "Yeah I know. I hate it too."

Me: "When is he gonna make that announcement?"

Peeta: "I don't know. Sometime today."

And sure enough the intercom interrupts Mr.Flavious's long speech about biodiversity and interdependence and Principal Snow comes on.

"Attention students. As you may know, we host our annual school Hunger Games each year. In case some of you didn't know, The Hunger Games are a big manhunt game. The goal is to be the last one standing. There are twelve teams with two people each. Many of you may be thinking this sounds fun, but all of you are wrong. Here's how you lose; When you get beaten up so much that you can't move is when you get pulled out of the game. There will be weapons, they will be non-deadly, but they can still badly hurt you. One more thing, there is only ONE winner. I will announce the teams and the starting date tomorrow. That will be all, thank you." Principal Snow says and I can almost see the grin on his dirty, little, face.
