Chapter Six: The Confession

••Katniss's POV••

I sit there in disbelief of what I just heard. Principal Snow is practically turning my friends against me and not only my friends but my crush too. I couldn't hurt Peeta. Not ever. And for that matter I couldn't hurt one of my friends either. Jesus. Does this have to happen to me!?

I feel a hand on my back, moving up and down slowly, comforting me. I didn't take long to figure out that was Peeta's hand and that everyone in the classroom was staring at our table.

I get up and run out the door. I run out of the school and I start to run harder when I hear someone running behind me. I run into the woods behind the school and stop in a small clearing. It doesn't take long for my tears to fall. The person that was following me sits down next to me and pulls me in an embrace. His muscular arms wrapped protectively around me as I cry into his shirt. The unknown person is Peeta.

••Peeta's POV••

It hurts to see Katniss cry like this. She is one of those people who you would never expect to cry because she is so strong.

I stroke her back and run my fingers through her hair and just like that she stops crying.

"Peeta, why did you run after me?" Katniss asks

"I ran after you because It looked like you needed someone to comfort you." I answer looking into her beautiful eyes while I run my fingers through her hair.

"What about you Peeta? How do you deal with all this?" Katniss asks

"I don't." I lie. Thinking that the only reason I am okay is because I'm with Katniss.

"Yes, you do. You just don't want to tell me." Katniss says.

"No." I lie again

"Peeta you can tell me anything and I won't say anything to anyone or make fun of you for it." Katniss says, knowing that I'm lying.

"I know that." I say, continuing to run my fingers through her hair.

"Then why won't you tell me, Peeta?" She says with a hurt look in her eyes. I hate to see her hurt.

"Because I don't know how you would react." I say and this time it isn't a lie.

"I told you already, you can tell me." Katniss reassuringly says.

I sigh, not knowing what Katniss's reaction will be, I continue, "I'm in love with you."I shakily confess while looking into her stormy gray eyes.
