Chapter Nine: The Range

CHAPTER NINE

••Peeta's POV••

I take Katniss's hand as she checks in and gets two sets of bows. We head out to lane 19, Katniss's favorite number, and we put our stuff down.

"You better go first, I wanna see how it's done." I say.

"Alright." Katniss responds. She sets up and nods her head to the side to get her hair out of her face. Her eyebrows knit in concentration and she pulls back the drawstring and aims the bow.

Damn she looks so hot when she does that.

She releases the arrow and it flies right smack in the center of the bullseye.

"Wow Katniss, you're amazing." I say in astonishment.

"Nah. I'm not that good." She says and I can see a tinge of red in her cheeks.

"Sure you are! You're perfect! You sent that arrow into the bullseye on your first try!" I reply to my beautiful girlfriend.

"I've had alot of practice that's all. I always come here to remember.... Nevermind. It's nothing." I watch a tear fall from her cheek. "You're turn." She says before I can say anything else.

••Katniss's POV••

It takes like a hundred tries for Peeta to finally get an arrow on the target, but that's okay I'm happy he's trying. "Peeta you know that you don't have to do this. We can do something else." I say to him

"No Katniss, you worked so hard helping me for the past hour, that I can't give up on you now." I can see that his eyes are a sky blue, which marks determination. So I guess Peeta's determined to make me happy.

"Oh alright" I say kissing him on the cheek and he goes back to shooting.

After another hour or so Peeta hits the bullseye five times in a row and three times before that. He's improved so much for a beginner. "Peeta you can stop now. You've hit the bullseye eight times."

"Okay. It's getting late anyway and I'm tired." Peeta responds.

"Will you stay with me tonight?" I ask him knowing that nightmares about my father will keep me up and with Peeta I feel safe.

"Okay. Can we stop at my house to get a change of clothes?" He asks

"Yep." I say popping the "P".

Peeta laces his fingers in mine, we drop off our bows at the reception desk, and head towards the car.

I'm so lucky am to have a person like Peeta in my life.
