Chapter Sixteen: Busy Bees

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

••Katniss's POV••

"Get her!" Cato yells and starts to charge forward.

I start to run as fast as I can. I keep running until I reach a tree with a fork in the branches half way up. I climb up and sit in the fork.

"I'll get her!" Glimmer exclaims as she pulls an arrow and notches it in a bow. MY bow. She pulls back the drawstring and the arrow goes flying by, an inch away from my head.

I decide to play along. "Aww come on! I can do better than that!"

"Ughh let me do it!" Cato says while ripping the bow from Glimmer's hands.

He pulls an arrow out of the sheath, notches it, and lets it fly. This time only missing my head by a half of an inch.

"Why don't you throw the sword?" I tease.

"Alright! Maybe I will!" Cato yells back, his voice full of hatred.

"Wait!" Peeta yells, putting his hand on the sword to stop Cato from throwing it.

"What is it now, Lover Boy?" Marvel asks, glaring at Peeta with those abnormal pitch black colored eyes.

"Just let her stay up there." He responds.

"Why should we do that?" Clove asks with burning hatred in her eyes.

"Well, she has to come down at some point. It's either that or starve." Peeta responds looking at me with those sad turquoise eyes.

"Lover boy has a point there." Glimmer says.

"Alright. Let's set up camp." Cato announces.

Everyone from their group starts to go off and set up, but Peeta just stands there looking at me. Looking at me with those sad, sad eyes.
----------------------------------------------•Peeta's POV•

I lie on the forest floor and gaze up at the stars, twinkling like diamonds, in the clear night sky. I can't help but think of Katniss. I betrayed her. I can't believe I actually betrayed her.

I turn to my side and try to fall asleep, being miserable isn't helping.

"God Peeta, stop being so miserable. Get over it. Katniss will understand." I whisper to myself over and over again.

But as I start to drift off, I'm not so sure if Katniss will forgive me.

I get stung three times as I climb to the beehive, the home of the bees that woke me up with their buzzing. I start to saw through the branch the hive is attached to only to get stung two more times. The branch finally breaks and falls down, down to the spot where my once best friends and boyfriend in the universe, lie fast asleep.

Everything after that was a blur. There were screams and footsteps pounding on the ground, the owners trying to get away from the mass of swarming bees. This lasted for what felt like two seconds. Two cannons rang out as the swarm of bees cleared, revealing the unconscious bodies of Glimmer and Marvel
