Chapter 21: The Plan

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

••Katniss's POV••

"Okay, so why happened to them!?" Peeta exclaims.

"Welltheywerehijackedbysnow." Annie says so fast, that I can't process it.

"They were what!?" Peeta and I yell at them.

Finnick opens his mouth to say something but Johanna cuts in. "Finnick! Don't you start!" She scolds him.

"They were hijacked." Annie says, than takes a breath. "By Principal Snow."

"Why?" I question.

"He wanted them to hurt you, and the only way to do that, was to get them to hate you." Johanna says examining her nails. "He didn't get his wish, so he's still going to try to hurt you."

Peeta wraps his arms protectively around me. "We need to stop him. Report him to the police. Get him thrown in jail."

"That won't work. He has people working for him." Finnick responds.

"What is he planning to do?" I ask.

"Whatever it takes to break you." Johanna answers.

Peeta takes a gulp. "Then what do we do?"

"We have to make it look like Katniss is broken. We need to make it look like he is broken." Annie informs.

"How are we going to do that?" I inquire.

"I hate this, but by the looks of this situation right now..." Finnick starts.

"Finnick! What are we going to do!?" Katniss barks.

"We are going to have to make it look like Peeta acted to feel way. Just for right now. You can be together in private. But not all the time. It has to work. It will work." Finnick continues.

Tears fill up my eyes. "No!"

"Katniss, this going to work. I promise I won't do anything with anyone else. I don't want to do this but we have too. I want you to be safe and this is how we are going to make that happen." Peeta coaxes.

"Katniss, he's right. Please listen to him." Annie says softly.

"Okay?" Peeta looks right into my eyes reassuringly.

"Okay." I say and kiss him.

*•Two Days Later•*

••Peeta's POV••

I hate this so much. I really do. But if it means protecting Katniss, Then I'm all for it.

As soon as Katniss gets in the car, I kiss her like there's no tommorrow. When I pull away, I lean my forehead on hers. "I love you. Don't you ever forget that."

"I love you too, Peeta. Just remember I Love you." Katniss chokes, with a tear running down her face.

"Katniss, you know I'd never do anything to hurt you." I respond.

"I know. Remember the plan?" Katniss asks.

I sigh. "Yes."

••Katniss's POV••

When we get to the school, Peeta and I take a deep breath and step out of the car. Time for the plan.

I reach for Peeta's hand, but he pulls his hand away. "Peeta? what are you doing?" I exclaim, loud enough for people to hear. "I thought you loved me."

"You really thought that I loved you! That was all an act Katniss. I don't love you! I love Delly Cartwright!" He laughs in my face. Then he turns, runs to Delly And they start kissing.

Seeing that makes tears come to my eyes, that wasn't the plan. That wasn't the plan I can't stop thinking.

It's just an act, Katniss, it's just an act.

And with that, I let my tears flow, and act like it was real, and not just a show.
