It was Christmas Eve.
The day started off a bit different for Peridot and Lapis. This was because Lapis had to stay the night in the hospital, but they had permission to leave in the morning. Peridot waited for Lapis to wake up until they left, though.
The blonde girl watched as Lapis stirred next to her in the hospital bed. Luckily Peridot had been allowed to stay with Lapis here for the night. The tan girl rubbed her eyes before opening them, yawning.
"Good morning." Peridot smiled. "Morning." Lapis replied sleepily. The pale girl brushed blue locks out of her girlfriend's face, pulling her a bit closer.
Suddenly Lapis gasped, scaring Peridot. "Lapis, what is it?!" The blonde haired girl asked in a panic. Lapis giggled in response.
"Christmas Eve, silly." She finally replied. "Oh." Peridot said. She hadn't even thought of it, she was too busy thinking about Lapis.
"So, when do you wanna leave?" Peridot asked. "Oh yeah, I forgot! We can leave!" Lapis exclaimed. Peridot chuckled, nodding.
"Right now if you want. Let's go in our pajamas and everything." Lapis replied. "Whatever you want." Peridot smiled. "You're too good to me." Lapis smirked.
Peridot playfully rolled her eyes before hopping out of the bed. "Need some help?" She asked Lapis. The blue haired girl laughed, shaking her head.
"I'm good." Lapis said. She got out of the bed, stretching. Peridot watched her with a small smile tugging at her lips.
"What?" Lapis asked, smirking. "Nothing. I just missed watching you stretch when you get out of bed in the morning. It's weird, you start to miss all of the little things when you're away, and you suddenly appreciate them more. Not that I don't appreciate you, God I appreciate you, Lapis. But-" Lapis put a stop to Peridot's rambling.
"I get the idea." Lapis giggled. Peridot blushed, nodding. "A-alright. Let's just go." The pale girl muttered.
Lapis smiled and took Peridot's hand. "I missed holding your hand." The tan girl said. Peridot nodded, "I missed holding your hand too."
"I just missed you." Lapis said as they headed down the hallway. The two girls had a brief moment of silence, Peridot looking at the floor and Lapis looking all around the hall.
Soon enough they reached the secretary's desk. They signed Lapis out, getting an okay from the doctor before they did so (the secretary insisted they need one). And with that, they were headed home.

The first few minutes of the drive home were silent. Lapis didn't like this silence. "Peridot, is everything okay?" She asked.
"What?" Peridot replied. Lapis shrugged, her blue eyes focused on Peridot. "When we were leaving your happiness seemed to drop." The bluenette answered.
"I've just been thinking, that's all." Peridot said reassuringly. Lapis didn't take this answer as enough. "Thinking about what?" She asked.
"I don't want to ask; I feel like it'll hurt you." Peridot said, eyes on the road. Lapis went to speak, but paused, chewing on her bottom lip. "I'll be okay, just tell me." The tan girl finally said.
