Sterling
My stomach dropped as the man pulled a syringe out of his bag. I recognized the liquid inside, The Unfeeling Serum. My father once made me watch a group of men be injected. I remembered their screams and pleas before everything was wiped away, replaced with a indescribable nothingness.
"Amberley..." I said urgently. "You can't let him inject you with that under any circumstances."
She scoffed but I still heard the alarm laced in her tone. "And what would you like me to do about it?"
"Listen to me. This isn't about us anymore. This is not about our flesh and blood and betrayal. If you lose your feelings, you will destroy the world. No one will be able to stop you and no one will be able to stop the Iniquitous. You've only discovered a portion of you're powers," I said quickly.
"I don't know what to do. I don't know...I just don't know what to do!" She exclaimed, panic taking over. I heard the old, scared version of Amberley peaking through.
I wanted to look her in the eyes and tell her how I felt but my back was turned to her. I kept quiet.
"I have to die..." she said softly. My eyes widened and I struggled against my invisible bonds.
"Are you crazy? We need you alive! You can't save the world when your dead! Duh, stupid!" Alexander shouts.
"Sterling is right. I would only destroy the people I love. I can't hurt you all. This is what I need to do and... and you'll find another way to save the Altrus... a better way," she says.
"No! Amberley, we will find another way to save you!" The red headed Taylor yelled.
"Use you're powers!" The hulk Pierson grunted.
Amberley sobbed. "I've already tried! Whatever is holding us still has taken away my powers too."
A idea took over me. "Do you remember the first day in Alvar's class?"
Amberley sniffed. "What does that have to do with anything? I really don't feel like talking about Clandestine with you."
"Listen to me, Amb. When you and Derrick were fighting, you overpowered him. He was weaker than you and your powers overcame his."
"What's your point?" Alexander growled.
"You can do that same thing to the little girl. You can overcome her powers."
Amberley sucked in a breath. "I can't."
"We didn't come this far to come this far, Amberley. I know you can do it," Micah said. Something about how Amberley sucked in her breath at this told me he had said this to her before.
The Reapers called agreements. I growled as the man walked toward Amberley. "I'll give you ten minutes to say your goodbyes."
With that, the man left the clearing, leaving the scared little girl all alone. My thoughts were racing. What could I do? I was powerless. I felt so useless.
"Whatever happens, I hope you all know that I wouldn't give these last few weeks up for the world. Taylor, if things would have been different, I bet we would have been the best friends. Betty, Jasmine, you are the sisters I never had. Beck, Jasper, you two are the brothers I never had. Micah... Micah, I'll never forget you and what you've done. Alexander..."
