First things first, DONT PANIC.
But I panicked.
My first instinct was to throw a shard of Athenas vase at the golden harpey, but Plutus distracted my thoughts.
He rose from his well polished chair. He ran a hand through his jelled blonde waves of hair, and plucked off his raybands. Underneath, one of his eyeballs were missing.
"I know what you're thinking goddess...", he delicately rubbed a hand down his empty eye socket, unsure of where to begin.
"A man in black took it.", he said quietly. A shiver sped up my spine.
A man in black...
I had a sudden flashback of the man in black. He took over my dreams. He followed me through forests...and dragged me through an alleyway...
He is real...
"What did he look like?", I asked, but Plutus seemed scared to speak, even if he was a god. Almost like someone was watching us.
"All black...all black except for his golden eyes. I wanted them.", he began. "So I reached for his eyes. I'm a god, and I should get everything golden, you know?", he asked me, and I nodded. Clare had slipped out of my peripheral vision as she slowly stepped backwards toward the harpey and the door.
"But...it grabbed my hand before I could take its golden eyes...", he rubbed his wrist as if it still felt the pain.
"Then it grabbed my eye.", he slammed his fists on the table, making dents. As angry as Plutus was, I felt sorry for him. Worst of all, I felt sorry for myself.
The man in black from my dreams was real.
"Now, I am stuck with an empty eye socket and a damn harpey to help me see. I was told I would get my eye back if I cooperated...or at least, that's what the man in black had told me."
My heart dropped.
Before I could reply, I heard the harpey scream, and I spun around to see Clare gone.
Gone. Like literal magic, she was gone.
"Clare?", I called out as the harpey shuffled toward a pile of golden bracelets in the corner of the room.
I felt like saying "Abrakadabra!"  and hope she'd appear.
"Your friend is not here, goddess.", Plutus placed the raybands over his eyes again and sat down. He magically made appear a deck of cards in his hands and shuffled them.
"Where is she?", I asked, my face felt hot. I was so confused.
What the hell just happened?
I approached his desk, placing my hands on the table.
He simply chuckled and dealt one card to me.
"I'm doing what I have to do in order to stop you and your little gang.", he said, reshuffling the cards in his hands.
"However, I will give you a warning. Just to...help.", he cringed at the word, but I could tell he was honestly trying to help me.
"What would really help is if I could get my friend back.", I said, but Plutus pointed to the card he dealt to me.
I flipped it over.
"The two of hearts. Nice! Great! Definitely going to find Clare with this pathetic playing card.", I yelled and ripped up the two of hearts, throwing the pieces at Plutus.
He gradually leaned forward, as if someone was listening. His face turned serious, and through his dark raybands I could see a hint of fear in his lonely eye.
"Two of you have the heart.", he spoke. "Be aware of who doesn't....", he paused to make sure I understood what he said.
But I didn't.
Then, he simply slapped me out of his room.
Literally.
I flew back when his hand hit my cheek and went straight through the door, then tumbled down the stairs.
"Get me a new door!", I heard him scream at his harpey.
The lights and music of the night club was blurry through my senses.
I groaned as I felt like I broke a few ribs on the way down.
"Terra, where ya been buddy?", Gerald suddenly appeared out of the crowd's dancing feet. It was suddenly nice to see his tiny black eyes and wet nose that always twitched. His friendliness at that moment reminded me of someone else.
"Clare's gone.", I said, wincing from the pain.
"What do you mean? Where'd she go?", he asked, and I shrugged.
"Plutus...he just made her disappear...it was weird...I don't know where she is.", I said, and spotted Nathan pushing through a crowd of strange looking creatures. He pushed back his hair and knelt next to me. Something in his eyes told me he had a heart like the card Plutus showed me. Or maybe it was the feeling that I might like him.
You're a stupid girl, Terra.
-----------------
Nathan's POV
-----------------
I was such a stupid guy for leaving Terra and Clare alone.
I was suppose to be there with them.
I was suppose to protect them.
Shaking my head in the silence, the cold wind of the night struck my face.
"You better slow down before you get a ticket.", Gerald commented from my backpack.
We walked slowly on the sidewalks of Manhattan, going to an unknown destination.
"We don't need your sarcasm.", Terra replied quietly, but her expression showed that she was lost in her own thoughts.
Looking at her reminded me of my first night at camp...

Flashback
--------------
The fluorescent white walls of the hospital hallway scared me. It scared me more than the bathrooms at school. It scared me more than being jumped those tens of times by the upper classmen. Matter of fact, I never got along with anyone in school.
She's going to be okay.
Think positive.
But I could only think of all the other times my moms been hospitalized. Living with cancer for the last five years has been tough.
All I want is for her to win the fight.
You need to be okay, mom.
I spoke quietly to myself, looking down at a small sun keychain.
My mom gave it to me the day she was diagnosed with cancer.
It was suppose to symbolize that there will always be a sun no matter how bad things may get.
Pretty sure she gave one to herself to. I wasn't always a good child. Before she was diagnosed, I was a mess. Never came home, never slept, never studied, and only lied to my mom about everything.
But I never lied about loving her.
Gently caressing the keychain, I heard the hospital room door slide open gently.
"Nathan, would you like to see your mother?", The doctor asked.
I didn't answer. I walked past him and into the room where my mom laid down.
I took a seat next to her bed and placed my hand over hers.
I didn't realize how much I've grown since I last saw her. I always worked to pay for chemotherapy. I always studied hard so she wouldn't worry about me.
Waiting silently for her to open her eyes, I terrible weight settled in my chest.
I wasn't lying whenever I told you I loved you...
Goodbye, Mom.

It's hard to explain the after affects of realizing my mother's death. I found myself in the alleyway behind the hospital later that night.
There was no pain, no feeling whatsoever.
I just stared at the small keychain, noticing that inside the sun was a bow and arrow.
Like piercing the sun, except the sun is my heart.
Suddenly, all my emotions slipped out at once.
I threw the keychain into the brick wall of the alley way, and slid against the wall of the hospital building. The keychain landed on top of a dumpster. I sighed and rubbed my tired eyes.
The feeling of being empty ironically filled me up. I felt like I didn't have a heart anymore.
Footsteps could be heard through the dark alleyway and I stood up.
An old man appeared out of the darkness. He had strangely long black and grey hair, and large bright eyes that looked like the sun itself. His legs wobbled fragilely as his cane supported him.
"It's very late for kids like you to be up.", he spoke strangely, almost strained.
Look who's talking, zombie man.
"Yeah...but how about you?", I asked. He gently approached the dumpster, eyeing the keychain.
"I am normally....a night person....", his voice sounded like he was being strangled.
Should I be concerned or run?
The old man gently reached for my keychain.
I stepped up to him and clasped a hand over it.
"Sorry...it's just that my mom gave me that keychain.", I emotionally winced at the word 'mom'.
"Please...", the old man tried to speak, but it sounded like all the air was sucked out of him. He suddenly fell limp onto the ground.
"Sir?", I knelt, getting him onto his back.
Does everybody want to just die around me?
A large shadow loomed over me as I tried to awaken the old man.
Once I turned around, a large black figure of a man shadowed me. I could make out no detail of his body except for his arms and two glowing eyes in his face.
"You killed him...", I said quietly, backing away.
"No, you killed me.", a familiar heart breaking voice emitted from the figure.
"Mom?", I gulped.
"Give him the keychain, dear.", she begged silently. I couldn't stand that I only heard her.
Mom, where are you?
I felt like the black figure lost his patience, and thrusted his hand in my direction.
A powerful yet invisible force threw me backwards deeper into the alleyway.
"NATHAN!"

Terra snapped her fingers in my face, and shocked me out of my past. Her green eyes simply calmed me down. I didn't know how Terra did it, but she made me feel like I had a heart again.
"Welcome back to reality!", Gerald greeted from my backpack.
"We're staying here for the night.", she said, turning away from me and walking towards a small Motel Inn. I could sense her sadness without Clare.
Wherever she is, I hope she's okay.
I put a hand on Terra's shoulder as we walked.
"We'll find her. I promise."
Terra just nodded, and it seemed like she didn't believe me.

Following her into the lobby of the hotel, I gently reached into my jean pocket.

I sighed in relief when I felt the keychain in my pocket.
Pocket full of sunshine, am I right?
