I woke up, feeling the warmth of the sun through my open window. The gentle breeze made me slightly open my eyes and realize that it's time for me to get out of bed.
I stood up and walked to my bathroom. I had a quick shower and brushed my teeth.
I expected to find my mom in the kitchen drinking coffee but instead, I found Shawn looking down on his phone while holding a cup of coffee on his other hand.
"Good morning" I said as I entered the kitchen.
He eyed me and smilled.
"Good morning Malia" he replied and looked down to his phone again.
What is he doing? I put some coffee and sat next to him.
He was just staring on his phone. He seemed worried for something but I couldn't understand what was going on.
His phone rings and he walks to the back yard. He seems worried and afraid of something. I follow him but he hasn't realized it yet.
He is so focused on his phone's screen, to pay attention to anything else. What's going on?
He answered the call.
"Woah... Andrew slow down I can't understand what you're saying."
"Yeah.. I know"
"I am sorry! You know that I didn't want to do so but what I was supposed to do?"
"I'll call him. I'll fix this Andrew. I'm really sorry."
"Okay talk to you later"
And he ended the call.
He is looking around the area. There are large trees all around our back yard and the pool is in the middle.
"What's going on?" I asked as I was walking to him and I put my hands in the pockets of my hoodie. My voice came out really low but he must heard me because he suddenly turned to me.
"I messed up Malia." he simply says.
"What are you talking about?"
"I had an interview at 7 and I missed it. It's not used for me to break my promises. I promised Andrew that I'd be there at 6 but I totally forgot about it and I overslept." he replied ashamed.
"Hey" I slightly pushed him with my shoulder and he smiled to me.
"You're a human being. You're not perfect. You will make mistakes and you may some times break your promises, but that's okay. We all make mistakes. But since we can't go back in time, we have to find ways to make it up for ourselves and the ones that we let down. So don't waste you're time being sorry, but used it to fix what you've done."
He looked at me and smilled.
"I know you're right, but I'm still disappointed with myself."
"You shouldn't!"
"I know!" he said and his voice came out louder than I expected.
"But it's hard Malia. It's hard, okay? I couldn't sleep last night, that's why I overslept. I missed an important interview and now I have no idea what I should say or do." he said while he was moving his hands in different directions.
"Why you couldn't sleep last night? Was it because you were not home?"
"No.. I'm okay with sleeping away it's just..never mind"
I decided to let it go. He clearly wasn't in the mood of having a discussion about it.
"Can we please go back inside? I'm freezing"
"Oh... Yeah... Sure"
As I was walking towars the house, Shawn rested his hand on my shoulder and he turned me around.
"Thank you" he simply said and walked past me.
Why is he acting so weird?
When I got in, he was waiting for me.
"I need to go"
"Oh... Okay"
I walked him to the front door of the house and I opened it for him.
"Malia.. thanks."
"What for?"
"For everything. For helping me last night, for staying calm when I couldn't, for letting me stay the night. It means a lot to me." he simply stated while he was looking deep in my eyes once again.
"My pleasure. You helped me so many times and you were always there when I needed you. What I did means nothing compares to what you did to me the last 6 months" and I smiled back to him.
He hugged me and left the house. There was an uber outside waiting for him. He weaved me and got in the car...
