I was looking at him flirting with a blonde waitress with a mini black dress. A stupid smile placed on her pale face and her blue eyes scanning him from head to toes.
She believed him. Every filthy, disgusting and stupid word that came out of his mouth. He had the attitude of an honest guy but in reality he was nothing but a liar. He could make you believe that the earth was flat, with his innocent smile and expressing eyes that look deep into your soul.
He wasn't smart and he was far away from being a straight-A student but the way he talked made you think the exact opposite. I'm pretty sure he spends hours and hours practising his words, his moves... he's a hunter, always looking for his next victim. Plays with her for a few days and dumps her when he finds a new one. It's an unending circle.
When he finally exchanged numbers with the blondie he walked back to me and handed me my drink. I didn't thank him, he doesn't deserve it. I placed the plastic cup on the table in front me and I stared him. He took a sip from his drink and took a deep breathe. His eyes finally met mine and I nodded to him, letting him know that I'm ready to listen to him and his side of the story but I think I did it mostly to convince myself. Am I truly ready?
"We were at Stefan's party. I told you to come with me but you said that you had to study or whatever. I know that you're trying not to drink again and I know it's hard for you so I decided not to push you too much. Andrea texted me telling me that her mum was out of town so she couldn't drive because her mum is very strict and protective with her... you know after what happened last year. Anyway, I offered her a ride there and she agreed. I won't lie. I was actually surprised that she decided to come even without you but I didn't say anything to her.
Her ex was there and she tried to talk to him. He ignored her and then he left with his new girl. She was heartbroken and she started drinking. Drink after drink until she couldn't think or walk properly. I kept an eye on her but my friends were playing beer pong and they begged me to play along.
When I came back I found her making out with a boy. I didn't mind. It wasn't any of my business but when things got out of control I stopped them. Her eyes were red and her breathe was disgusting from the alcohol she had consumed. I took her out of the house where everyone was, looking for one of your friends to take her home. Jessica was there and I was about to call her name but Andrea grabbed my face and crushed her lips against mine. I didn't kiss her back but everyone there saw what happened and someone took a picture of us.
I know I'm not the best boyfriend but we went slow Malia, just like you asked me to. You told me you were not ready to kiss me yet and I respected it, you told me not to move too fast and I freaking did. You may not believe it but I care about you and I would never do anything to hurt you."
I was speechless. Unable to speak, think or even move. I was looking at him, telling his story but his eyes were away from mine the whole time. Nervously playing with this cup and slightly moving his eyes from the table to outside of the window. I don't believe him. I saw the picture... they were kissing...passionately... there is no chance that that's how the night went by. He was lying in front of my freaking face. Why would I even believe him? He lied to me way too many times...
"I...I don't believe you Michael." I finally admitted.
"Malia..."
"Michael come on... just fucking admit it" his eyes full of surprise because of the words that escaped my mouth.
"You never loved me. I knew you were falling for her from day one. I was just a distraction for you. Nothing more and nothing less. Deep down, I knew it but I didn't want to admit it, I didn't want to believe it because I had a crush on you for a long time. You had finally noticed me and I didn't want whatever we had to end. She was too obsessed over her ex boyfriend and I was too stupid to have a relationship with you in order to fulfill a stupid expectation I had. She fell for you too. I knew it but still ignored it. I was waiting for her to tell me but she didn't. Just admit it Michael. Do something right for once. Don't you think I had enough? Enough to finally know the real story and not what you've just made up."
"But I'm not lying Malia."
"Okay I had enough. Can't have any more of your lies. I'm full with them."
I grabbed my bag from the chair beside me and walked out of the small café. The sky was painted with dark blue and black clouds and a small storm was about to start. I called for a taxi and I started walking down the street away from his lies.
Light rain started falling and I closed my eyes turning at the sky. I let the rain fall all over my face and I smiled like an idiot. God, I love rain.
So calming and beautiful. It feels like it washes away the negative feelings and unpleasant thoughts that cross our mind and when it's done it lets behind a clear canvas for you to paint it again with new memories, new feelings and add new people to it. It's an unending circle.
The taxi finally picks me up and drives me back home. My dad is sleeping at the sofa, the lights of the TV reflecting on his face. I shake him slightly and his tired eyes meet mine. A sleepy smile appeared on his lips before his arms wrapped around my back, bringing me close to him for a hug. I giggle like little girl and he hugs me tighter.
"I missed my Lia"
"I missed you too daddy."I walked to my room, I had 3 texts probably from Shawn. I had a shower and fell asleep watching a movie.
At the end of the day everything happens for a reason, and someone who lied to you once, will probably lie to you again. Don't let people manipulate you. You're smart and unrepentant.
The road that will lead you to an amazing life is long and exciting. You'll lose people, you'll meet new people, you'll lose some more but the ones who will stay are probably the best. Make new memories, learn more, work hard and achieve your goals. Nothing and no one should prevent you from achieving your aims.
