A surprise.

"And what would you like to drink, sir?"

"Um, I think I'll have a capuccino."

"Alright. Perfect."

I'm taking a quick note on my small notebook and leave their table. My headache is getting worse and worse and this ponytail doesn't help at all. I hand the paper with their order to Steph and I run to the staff washroom. I put cold water all over my face and I clean the water from my face with a paper towel.
I take a deep breath and I look myself in the mirror. The black circles underneath my eyes let everyone know that the sleep I take is not enough. I fix my ponytail and I leave the washroom. I walk towards my bag and I read the message Shawn has sent me.

"I miss you, baby. Are you free this week?"

"I miss you too. No, I work all week and I took some extra shifts as well. I'm sorry. Love you."

I put my phone in my bag and I walk towards Steph. He handed me the tray with the drinks. I walk towards table 9 and I place the cold drinks in front of them.
When I place the last drink, I look up and Shawn is standing in the entrace of the cafe. He nods at me and I see him walking in the back of the cafe, where the staff room is. Steph waves at him and he walks in without hesitation.
Steph calls my name.

"Your shift is over." He states.

"No, it's not. I still have an hour." I reply confused.

"I said what I said. And tell Michael to finally come here. How long does this break of him lasts?" He asks and I laugh.

"Thanks Steph." I say silently as I'm holding the door's handle.
He smiles.

I enter the staff room and Michael is sleeping on one of the tables and Shawn is sitting at the small couch in the corner. I smile at Shawn and I walk towards Michael.
I shake his hand and his eyes open.

"Your break ended an hour ago. I took half of your shift, buddy."

His eyes are now wide open.

"I'm so sorry. The kids wouldn't stop crying last night and Erica was out of town." He says as he stands up with his eyes close. He scratches the back of his head and he finally opens his eyes.

"I know. That's why I took your shift too, but..." and I move my head towards Shawn direction.

"Oh. Yeah. I'm leaving now." He moves fast towards the door and he leaves the room.

I walk towards Shawn and I sit on his lap. He pulls me into a hug and I can't help but smell his cologne.

"What are you doing here?" I mumble and he rests his head on my chest. I place my left hand on his cheek and I rest my head on top of his.

"There was no way I'd wait for another week till I see you again." He says silently.

"I thought you were in L.A."

"I came back this morning."
He cupped my cheeks and stared at my face.

"Why so tired? Haven't you slept these days?" His eyes are scanning my face.

"No." I say looking down.

"But, I thought that the cafe closes at 6." He asks confused.

"I'm working 2 jobs." I say embarrassed.

"Why?" He's getting worried.

"I want to speed-up this process."

"Malia, you need to give up the one."

"Shawn, I need the money, okay? I don't want my parents to pay for everything."

"Then let me pay."
