I was not looking forward to this.
Today was Wednesday which meant, project time. And that meant Sabrina was going to be there. I was dreading it.
My car was still in the shop, and I had no idea what exactly was wrong with it. Thankfully, my best friend was amazing, and had agreed to take me to the cafe.
The cafe was one of my favourite places to work, but nothing beat the park. The park near my house had a peaceful little spot, with a stone table and benches, hidden by the growing trees and plants.
Only a few other people knew of this spot, Jacko, Nita, Ley, Lissie,Sam and Taylor. Not even Summer knew, because I couldn't bring myself to tell her about it.
Nita had the radio blasting at full volume, screaming along to the songs. Usually I'd be screaming along with her, but today I was too anxious. Ryan still had to tell me who the mysterious newcomers to my revenge scheme were, and I had to face the target of my scheme today. I had to act like everything was fine, that we still hated each other's guts. Ok, well the last part wouldn't be too hard, but I always act super suspicious if I have to lie for a long time.
Nita stopped singing abruptly, looked at me and sighed. "You're thinking about how you're probably gonna screw this up, aren't you?"
She knew me so well. Sometimes it was a good thing, sometimes it was a bad thing. Right now, it was a mixture of both. "Yes," I replied, "but you know I suck at long term lies. Short term I can handle, long term, not so much. Remember how I claimed to Sam that I kept staring at Ollie because he was walking funny, when in fact it was cause I liked him?"
Nita snorted in amusement. "Oh, I remember. Sam is very observant, and unfortunately for eighth grade Linda, he's also not daft." Sam had caught my bluff instantly when I told him that. Even back then, Ollie had been kind and humble, for a popular. But, because of Sabrina, I had vowed to steer clear of populars, and instead of pining for him, I spent grade eight and nine trying to get over him.
The engine died as Nita opened her car door. Dazed and still lost in my memories, I glanced at her. She stared back at me from outside the car.
"Well? Are you coming or not?"
~~~
It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
Sure, Sabrina was still a pain in my ass, but our equal hatred for each other seemed to keep us occupied. She had grumbled her distaste for cappuccinos again, and I had simply ignored her.
Nita was also proving to be a fruitful distraction, picking the usual fights with the Demon. Right now they were arguing over who got to design the layouts for the posters.
"No! You're just going to make it all girly and blind us all!" Nita protested.
"What, you think that's worse than your gothic designs? I know you, you're probably going to decorate out poster boards with pictures of dead animals and such," Sabrina spat back.
Obviously Ryan had had enough. Ollie and him weren't used to this, whereas Ley and I were. Summer herself was still getting used to it but she was much too reserved to say anything.
"How can you stand this? They've been at it for five whole minutes! I'm gonna get a major headache soon," Ryan complained.
Ollie scoffed. "Lucky you, I already have one."
