My eyes stung with tears as I read the caption of the post.
This was not happening. This can't be happening.
Good Morning McArthur High, ready for your daily scoop of gossip?
It seems the innocent Melinda Williams has been harbouring a dark secret, all these years. Who would've thought, that while her poor daddy had a cancer scare, she never visited him once? Looks like innocent Melinda is truly just heartless </3
That wasn't even the worst part. The comments were gut-wrenching.
What a bitch!
She doesn't deserve a father
I bet her dad hates her
Her family probably disowned her
People like her make me sick
Die bitch @linda.wills
As the first silent tear fell, my phone dropped and I crumpled into a ball.
And as the tears continued like rivers, I just lay there, feeling hollow.

It was some time later that Tommy burst into my room, worry etched into his features.
"Linda! I came as soon as I could, but I had lectures all morning. Are you ok?"
I didn't reply, staring at the plain white wall. The tears had subsided for now, but it didn't do anything to stop the canyon of sorrow I had.
"Linda...you know what they said isn't true. No matter what happens, we'll always love Mum and Dad. They don't know why we didn't go see him when he had cancer. Just ignore them, Li. You know we'd have done anything to go with Mum to see him. As long as you know the truth, then everything will be alright."
And with that, Tommy left, sensing my need to be left alone.
The truth was that when Dad got cancer, we weren't in a good place. I was 13, Tommy was 15, and my relationship with Mum was on the verge of collapsing. Tommy and I weren't on the best of terms either, and with Mum in between jobs, we didn't have enough money to go to England and visit Dad. I wanted to, so badly. But we had to save money for his treatment and for daily necessities, which meant only Mum could go visit him. After 6 months, he made a full recovery. He was lucky the doctors caught it early. We were lucky.
The only people I told about my Dad's cancer were my group, but it wasn't like it was a huge secret. I mean Sabrina knows about it and Summer found out from my friends. Other people probably heard it somehow, but now everyone knew. And they all knew, that when my Dad thought he might die, I didn't even visit him.
That if he had died, I would never have said goodbye.
