Loreen struggles with life, like most teenagers. But unlike a lot of other teenagers, her father is abusive, sexually and physically. It really gets to Loreen but it isn't like she can do anything about it, she has no other family except for...
"Miss Manish? Have you shared your presentation about you with me?" My English teacher, Mr. Howard, asks me.
"No. I didn't do it." I tell him.
"Ok. Just remember that it is your grade. When you are ready to do it and get a grade for it, come talk to me." He tells me. Yeah, fuck off.
Why would I stand in front of the class and tell them about myself? It's not like anyone cares. We just came back from summer break and our first assignment was to do an About Me presentation. What am I going to tell them except for lies?
You want the truth, Mr. Howard? The truth is that my name is Loreen Grace Manish. I live with my father. I have no brothers or sisters. My mom 'died' when I was 7 years old. What I mean by 'died' is that she just didn't die; she was murdered by my father, which I still live with. He is just good at getting rid of the evidence and making sure no one talks. He killed her because she was going to run away with me so we wouldn't be in danger. My father treats me like I am his wife now. He beats me and whispers dirty things into my ear. I can't do anything to stop him. He is rich and he pays people off to look the other way. I go to and from school. No where else. I had a best friend, her name is Emily, but she is now 'popular'. In other words, she is a bitch. So no, I won't do the presentation and lie my ass off, my father does enough of that for everyone.
Ethan's P.O.V.
Loreen is a bad bitch. Well, she isn't a bitch. She really isn't anything and no one cares. Everyone thinks that she is weird and Emily, Loreen's old best friend (the only one she had), started some rumors that her father sexually and physically abuses her. No one knows if it is true.
Loreen would be nice looking if she tried. But she doesn't and that is also attractive, but I can't be attracted to her because I'm in the 'in-crowd' and she is definitely not. She isn't in any crowd.
I continue to stare at her, picking out her flaws. She looks up and around the room; she catches me looking at her and I have no clue what to do. My body decides to act on its own and I wink at her. She now has a confused look on her face and she looks scared, as well.
I never believed the rumors to be true. Only now, is it occurring to me that it might be.
