"Took your time" I heard Matt's voice behind me.
"Hey Matt" Brooke said before walking into the beach.
"Here let me get it" Matt said taking my bag form my hands.
"Thanks Matt" I said with a smile. I closed the door and we walked onto the beach. We all found a spot and sat down. I whistled and Max came running over. "Hey buddy" I said roughing him up. He barked playfully at me. I took out his favourite toy and threw it. He immediately chased after it. I pulled out some sunscreen and put it on.
"So you want me to get your back?" Matt asked.
"Yes please" I said and handed him the bottle. I let my head hang back as he started massaging it into my shoulders. I opened my eyes to see him smiling down at me. I smiled back and he lent down and kissed me. I couldn't help but smile and pull away hearing Brooke let out a tiny squeal. I shook my head as I looked at her.
"What you two are so cute" Brooke smiled. I rolled my eyes. I got up and ran over to Max. I grabbed one end of his toy and we played tug a war.
"Come on, come on" I encouraged him. He let out a playful growl. "Your such a tough boy arnt you" I laughed. I let go and ran into the water. Max followed me and we swam around. Max and I went back onto the beach. Nate and who I'm assuming is Rayne were sitting talking with AJ, Matt and Brooke. I said down draping my towel over my shoulders.
"Hey guys" I said.
"Have fun?" Brooke asked.
"Yeah" I said with a half smile. I felt an arm over my shoulders. Matt smiled at me.
"Hey why don't we go get something for lunch?" Brooke suggested.
"Yeah" AJ said. "How about you and Matt stay here?" You too AJ?
"Yeah that sounds great" Matt said with a smile.
"We'll be back" Brooke said and they began walking away. Max ran after them, I let out a small laugh.
"You alright?" Matt asked as he moved closer.
"I'll be fine" I said pulling my legs to my chest and wrapping my arms around them.
"I'm here for you, you can talk to me" Matt said rubbing my back.
"They're taking Max back for duty" I said.
"Oh"
"Me and Max have been together from day one" I said. "We trained together, ate together, slept together, screwed up together, marched out graduation day together" I wiped a tear away remembering all the things we had done together. "Literally everyday since I got him we have been with each other. Whenever he was sick or hurt I was there beside his bed. It's going to be so strange not having him with me all the time. I'm going to miss the flea bag" I chuckled to myself through the tears.
"It's going to be ok" Matt said just above a whisper. The towel fell off my shoulders as Matt pulled me into his lap, hugging me. "I'm here it's going to be ok" I wrapped my arms around his neck cuddling into him.
"I-I'm just going to miss him so much"
"I know, I know" he said as he gently rocked back and forth. "So what's he going to be doing?"
"he's going back out with the squad" I said.
"So you know who he's going to be with?" Matt asked.
"Yeah"
"Knowing who he's with, Does it help in any way?"
"A little" I wiped my eyes.
"Max's going to be fine" I nodded. "Hey why don't we go for a swim or something?"
"Well we are at a beach" I said with a small giggle.
"No..... Really?!" I laughed playfully pushing his shoulder. I got up and helped him up. "Hang on I just need to quickly make a call" I nodded and he walked away a little bit pulling out his phone. I sat back down and reapplied some sunscreen whilst I waited.
