Warning: Angst
~
[Y/N] smiled by herself, glancing at the blonde across the room. He wasn't doing anything in particular, just talking with his friend Sam Wilson. [Y/N] stared for a bit longer, playing around with the pen in her hand, before she sighed and a frown made it's way onto her face. She had always admired him from afar, too scared of him not returning her feelings. She knew that if she told him, and he didn't feel the same, that would be it for them. She loved him too much, though her worst nightmare was just around the corner.
Steve Rogers was engaged.
He had been together with Agent Sharon Carter for a while now, and now they were to be married. To [Y/N], this meant Steve would never be hers, and he would never love her.
"[L/N], are you done with the reports?" Clint's voice cut off [Y/N]'s reminiscing. She blinked and leaned back in her chair, a pile of papers in front of her.
"Yeah, I finished most of it, I just have to write this last page." Clint nodded and smiled slightly, praising her on her hard work. [Y/N] was a new 'secretary' of sorts for the Avengers. She filed reports for them, kept their files safe and sorted, and she had direct contact with all of them. She did all the paperwork that needed to be done, so to say.
"Bring it back to the office when you're done and sort it out. I would help you, but I gotta go... somewhere." The emphasis on the last word told [Y/N] exactly where he was going; to see his family again. [Y/N] nodded with a tiny smile, continuing with her work as Clint left.
When she glanced up again, she saw that it was getting late, and that she was one of two people left, the other one being the one and only who had been occupying her thoughts for the last months. "Finished up work?" Steve asked from his seat by the coffee table, writing some things down on a piece of paper. [Y/N] nodded, but realized he wasn't looking at her and mumbled out a 'yes'. Steve looked up and smiled slightly at the girl, then went back to his work after 'dismissing' her. [Y/N] frowned, but stood up nonetheless and gathered her things. After having turned off the laptop and stuffed it in her bag, she rushed towards the door, only for it to open and revealing Sharon Carter. Why did [Y/N] have to suffer today?
"Hey, you're here." Steve grinned and stood up. Before she could see them share a kiss, [Y/N] excused herself and left in a hurry, tears stinging her eyes. She felt her heart ache, or maybe it was just her mind playing tricks? Either way, the stinging pain she felt as if she had been slapped across the face occupied her entire mind. She hugged herself as she left the Avengers building, bag slung over her shoulder and an imaginary trail of shards from her broken heart left behind her.

Just some short angst to get the writer's block off my back and to get going with the book again, sorry if it was too harsh or depressing, I need to brainstorm :')
