Claire Maureen Leonora Wilkes“OK, so just follow along with what I paint on the canvas up front, or add your own twist to it, and your paintings should turn out beautifully. Let's get started.” The instructor smiled.
Rome and I sat side by side and attempted to follow along.
“What made you choose painting for the first date?” I asked as I added a curved line to the painting.
“It's different. It ain't typical like other dates people be goin' on. Besides, you look like a creative woman. I wanted to see what you could do.”
“I understand that.” I smiled a bit. “What exactly are we supposed to be making anyway?”
“Whatever you want to, I guess, or follow her. Tha woman ova there paintin' a dick.”
“What?” I asked, not sure if I heard him correctly. He nodded to a woman in front of the class.
I looked at her painting, and sure enough, there was a large penis.
I laughed lowly with Rome.
“Do you see the caption at the bottom?” I asked.
“Nahh, it's too far away. What it say?”
“Leaning Tower of Penis.” I said laughing more.
“She need some help.”
“She need some dick.” Rome responded.
“That, too.” I said as the laughter died down. “So, what do you do for living?”
“I'm co-owner of Inked Tattoo Shop uptown.” He answered.
“I thought you just moved here.”
“I did 'bout 6 months ago. It's my cousin's shop.”
“Oh.” I nodded, understandingly.
“Where did you move from?”
“Missouri.”
“Why did you move here to Michigan?”
“My cousin was opening a shop and needed help.”
“You did tattoos in Missouri?”
“Yes.” He smiled. “You got a lot of questions.” He looked at me.
“I just need to know the person I'm on a date with.”
“Cautious woman.” He said simply.
