Skylar
I woke up the next morning with a feeling my life was about to change. And I couldn't tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing. I didn't have a dream last night, but I did hear howls and my feeling had a lot to do with that.
I shook my head again. What's wrong with me? Good gods I swear I might be going insane. Don't I have school today? Yeah let's focus on that.
I got up and slipped into some jeans shorts and a blue sweater. I couldn't decide on what shoes I would were so I just went with my brown sandals. I decided to let my hair down today, pulled out a brush, and wove the tangles out. Once I was done, made sure to use my deodorant and perfume.
I grabbed my bag and walked out the my door, headed down the stairs and grabbed a bagel from the pantry. While it was toasting, Derek came downstairs in his flannel pjs with no shirt on. I rolled my eyes.
"What are you doing up so early? There's no school." He said.
"There isn't?" I asked, just as the bagel popped up. "Well okay. I'm already dressed so I might as well go out somewhere. And the sun from my window wakes me up."
"Ah." He said as I buttered my bagel and dropped my backpack on the counter.
"Tell everyone that I'm heading out to do who knows what, kay?" I took a bite of my bagel and opened the front door.
"Sure. Just don't go parading in the woods today." He said.
"Why not?" I asked. I thought he had been joking but his tone of voice worried me.
He looked at me with furrowed eyebrows. "Just promise me you won't."
The curiosity was killing me but I knew he wouldn't let me leave the house if I didn't, so I heaved a sigh. "Fine. I promise." Not. Sorry Derek.
He narrowed his eyes but didn't stop me as I left the house. I was walking down our front sidewalk when a nice looking car pulled up in front of me and honked. I stopped, placed one hand on my hip, and raised an eyebrow.
I could hear a familiar laughter come from inside the car and I relaxed. Ryan rolled down the window. "Come on, Skylar!"
"Where we going?" I asked excitedly.
"To the beach!" He said with a smile and I saw all the friends I had made at school two days ago in the back of the car. Chloe waved at me.
I waved back, a bit confused. "Won't it be cold?"
"Nah. The water's pretty warm up here." Ryan said. "Now go get ready!"
"Okay okay. I'll be out in a sec!" I said, running back inside my house.
"Back so soon?" Derek looked up from the couch.
"No." I said walking up the stairs. "I'm coming back to change. I'm going to the beach with a couple of friends."
"The beach?" Derek asked, suddenly tensing. "Who are you going with?"
"Calm yourself. I'm going with Ryan, Chloe, Cameron, Lish, and Sam." I replied, rolling my eyes.
He relaxed slightly but still looked troubled. "What?" I asked stopping at the top of the stairs.
"Nothing. Nothing at all." He said, pressing play on the remote. I shook my head at his vagueness and walked to my room. I pulled out my favorite blue laced bikini and quickly put it on, with my shorts and a tank top over it.
I slipped my sandals back on, grabbed my sunglasses and phone and headed back out of my room, down the stairs, and out of the house. When I got outside I saw they were still waiting for me. I smiled and made my way around to the passenger side where Ryan opened the door before I could. I slid into the seat and smiled at him, closing the door.
