My life had gotten infinitely better the minute I laid eyes on Skylar. Though we'd been through a lot over the past few weeks, everything was good now. I'd go through all that again, if it meant I'd get her back again. Now while Skylar found that extremely cheesy, it was the truth. And I would say it a thousand times more just to prove it to her.
I was glad she was doing alright. As she had commented last night after the movie, she was recovering. And she'd be alright. The two weeks after I'd found her bloody in the woods had been a bit hectic and full of patience. She was scarred. Every time I'd touch her, even if it was just to hold her hand or touch her arm, she'd freeze up in panic, a look of pure terror in her eyes.
She'd wake up screaming from nightmares and would freak. I'd wrap my arms around her, rocking her back and forth, mumbling soft words in her ears before she would stop screaming. It hurt me and made me angry beyond comprehension that she had to go through that and that she was still suffering but it was progressively getting better each day. And for that I was happy.
I was lying in bed, my arms wrapped around a still sleeping Skylar, staring at the ceiling. She was snuggled up against me, her blonde hair splayed out on my chest. I busied myself, twirling my fingers in a piece of her hair and letting my thoughts wander. They didn't get far though.
You up, Alpha? I heard Cameron's voice in my mind.
Yeah. I replied. Skylar's still sleeping though.
Oh okay. Cameron said. When she's up, come on down, we've got something for her.
I raised an eyebrow. Oh really? What is it?
It's for you too, so no spilling. You can wait a while longer for her to wake up can't you?
I dramatically sighed but knew it didn't matter. Whatever it was could wait. Alright Cameron.
Great. He replied before disconnecting.
Hmm. I wonder what it is. Ayden thought.
Could be anything. I pondered. A gift obviously, but what? Skylar was very gracious about things. She never asked for anything and accepted anything she did get, even if it wasn't what she originally wanted.
It wasn't long before Skylar started to stir. She didn't wake up at first, just snuggled around in different positions for a few minutes. She turned away from me, she splayed her arm across my chest making me smile, and she brought one leg over mine before she stopped moving. I watched, amused. I could tell she was awake now.
I picked a piece of hair off her face. "Hey Sleeping Beauty." I whispered.
She opened one eye and peered through her curtain of hair up at me. "Yes?" She mumbled, sounding sleepy.
"Cameron said he's got something for you." I replied.
"What is it?" She picked her head up and used an elbow to prop it up, her hair swinging to the side.
"I don't know." I said. "He said it was for me too. Let's go find out."
Her head fell back on my chest and I couldn't help but laugh. "I'm too tired to move."
"I'm sure you are." I murmured. "But it's noon." I said, glancing at the clock. "Get up. Most normal people would be up by now."
She sat up again and rolled her green eyes before slipping off the bed, wobbling on her feet slightly before slipping on a pair of sandals. She grabbed her orange sweater from the closet and slipped it over her tank top and shorts. "Well if I have to get up." Her voice was groggy as she turned and pulled me off the bed. "You have to as well."
