Skylar

First day of school. Yippee. Note the sarcasm. I had thought that at least Derek would be starting with me but apparently he was going to wait for who knows how long to start. He claimed that he was "taking his classes online". Ugh. Of course.

I grumbled to myself how useless brothers could be while I took out my outfit for the day. At that point I wasn't really sure I cared what other people thought, so I went with my black sweat pants and a one-shoulder gray sweater with a big white paw on it. To top it off I slipped on my black boots and tied my hair up in a messy bun. I didn't bother with the makeup. I know what you're thinking, it's your first day of school, shouldn't you try to look your best? Well no, I shouldn't. It's not like I'm going to become insanely popular so it doesn't matter.

I slowly emptied my backpack and placed all of the text books Chris had retrieved for me yesterday inside. Slipping my phone in my pocket, I headed toward the door but stopped before leaving the room. I glanced over to the side and saw that the mysterious door had appeared again. I glanced down at my watch. It was 7:15. I estimated my time and decided it was now or never. For all I knew, the door would be gone after school and never show up again.

I closed my door and dropped my stuff, quietly slipping into my secret passage and bounding down the stairs, the torches lighting my way. When I reached the door I had the sudden urge to knock. I couldn't hear any voices inside so I took a deep breath and knocked three times.

I took a step back and waited, holding my breath. About five horrendously long seconds later, the door opened to reveal none other than Ryan Lancaster, the absolutely dreamy boy from the park.

"Ryan?" I asked just as he asked. "Skylar?"

I shook my head and we both laughed. "Alright," I said. "You go first."

He smiled. "What are you doing here? Don't you have school today? Or are you too nervous?"

I shook my head again and smiled. "No. While I am nervous, I was more curious about this here mysterious door. And I could ask you the same thing. And what is this place?"

He looked hesitant before nodding for me to come inside. I walked in and found it exactly like it was last time except there was a big black couch in the corner. He closed the door and I opened my mouth to tell him not to, afraid that it would disappear. When it didn't I sighed.

He turned to me and didn't seem to notice my discomfort. "This is kind of a secret meeting room of sorts. How did you find it?" He asked, leaning forward curiously.

I shrugged, trying not to feel self conscious under his gaze or lose myself in his eyes so I glanced around the room. "It just randomly appeared this morning." I bit my lip. I was now quite positive that he had been one of the voices I had heard before, but I didn't want him to know I had been listening. Especially if it had been something important.

"Huh." He said, rubbing his chin and glancing at the ground in such an adorable way I had to restrain myself from reaching out and touching his face, run my hands through his dark, dark hair.

"Is there something I should know about this place?" I asked, shuffling my feet. "I mean there are secret doors that pop up out of nowhere."

His lips quirked up in a sexy half smirk. Wow, I can't believe I just used the word sexy as an adjective to describe someone.

Well it's true. A little voice in my mind said. I ignored it and watched as he ran his hand through his hair, obviously thinking of an answer.

"Well let's just say..." He started, glancing up at me with mischievous eyes. He was hiding something. "That this is certainly a place of mystery."
