Skylar opened her mouth and it took a few seconds for the words to come out. "You're.....you're a werewolf."
That took me by surprise. I had expected she would just freak out and I'd have to explain what I was, but she seemed pretty cool about this. Well if she wasn't she was good at faking. Her mouth was still open as I nodded.
Then the shock came. "Oh my gods! You're a werewolf! A freaking werewolf! A guy who turns into a werewolf and holy shit.....he's one too." Skylar trailed off, glancing at the ground. It made me wonder how the hell that rogue knew Skylar and how she knew him.
"Wait," I said, realizing something. She looked up at me. "You know what a werewolf is?"
She looked caught off guard by the question but she nodded. "Yeah. I don't know the details on how the live or even what they eat, I just know that you're half human half wolf. I used to read a bunch of mythology and werewolves had been mentioned a lot, although, each book was different one would say that they were ugly creatures, and good gods that's not even close." I smiled at that. Well at least she didn't think I was ugly. "And others said they could only shift during a full moon which is obviously not true. It's not a full moon."
"Well at least you know what we're not." I said, still smiling.
"But I still know almost nothing about you." She said, looking at me. "Guys." She added and I laughed.
I took a few steps toward her, glad when she didn't flinch back in fear. "I could always teach you. Tell you how we live and what we eat and answer any questions you might have about us."
"You." She corrected, crossing her arms.
"Well....." I said. She glared. Gods she was adorable when she was angry. I sighed. "Fine."
I gestured to the clearing and she followed. We sat down crisscrossed across from each other. She smiled. "Okay. So first question, does it hurt?"
"When I shift?" I asked and she nodded. "Not really, though most of the time I don't really pay attention to how it feels so you'd have to ask someone else that."
"Someone else?" She raised an eyebrow. "I mean obviously there are others but are they any others who wouldn't kill me?"
I laughed. "Oh plenty. They're extremely nice and wouldn't dare hurt a human, unless they did something to their mate."
"Mate." She said, rubbing her chin. Her eyebrows furrowed as she thought and I couldn't help but smile at her cuteness. She was just too cute for her own good. "Mate. What does mate mean? I mean to a werewolf."
"Mates are like soulmates. Two werewolves, though sometimes one can be human, are paired together by the moon goddess at birth. They're meant to be and it's like their other half that they've been missing their whole life. A mate is the single most important thing to a wolf. They would do anything to protect, to have, to hold, and to cherish." I was watching her with a knowing look. She looked intrigued by the information I was giving her. "A mate is something they can't live without."
"That sounds wonderful." She whispered, a bright beautiful smile on her face. All I wanted to do was hug a her and hold her and gosh my own words were getting to me.
"It's not always wonderful. Mates can be rejected. For many reasons, their mate is a rogue, which is strictly forbidden when you're in a pack. Or they just don't want them." I shrugged. I would hate that so much. But I couldn't help but wonder, What if Skylar rejected me? I shook my head.
No let's not jump to conclusions. She didn't scream or freak out when she realized what you were so you shouldn't be worried. Ayden muttered in my mind.
