Rainy Days and Break-Ins

It's been two days since I beat Sasuke during training and earned the week off. I had passed by Naruto a few hours later, groaning about losing to a girl and getting extra training. Sasuke had obviously won after I did and I suppose Sakura pulled it together enough to beat Naruto. I've spent most of my time off so far reading over scrolls or training on my own in the woods. It's been rather peaceful. I wake up just after dawn and hear the rain tapping against the windows. After convincing myself that there is more to life than staying in my bed, I get up and take a shower. Instead of a crop top and mesh, I decide to wear a dark blue t-shirt underneath my jacket. After dressing, I duck out of the room to prepare a pot of coffee. When it finishes, I pour half of the pot into an overly large lidded cup and put my weapons and boots on.
The lock clicks behind me and I make my way through the streets in the rain. My sheaths will protect the blades from water and nothing else is affected by water so I have no concerns. The few people that are out in this weather are hiding under umbrellas. I sip my coffee as I make my way past them, ignoring the dirty looks I receive. I have no true destination, I just didn't want to be inside and the rain is peaceful.

"What is wrong with you? You're going to make yourself sick." I hear from behind me. The voice sounds familiar with its lazy drawl.
"There are a lot of things that are wrong with me, but none of them will make me sick right now. Why do you ask?" I reply, turning to face the Nara boy. His hair is pulled back like usual and a black umbrella is open above him. I take a sip of coffee and watch as his expression changes to show his annoyance.
"You're walking in the rain with no umbrella, baka. You're going to get sick."
"I hardly ever get sick. Besides, what concern is it of yours? I'm neither your teammate nor your friend."
"Because you're the only other intelligent person in this village. You're troublesome and rude, but if you're sick, I'm surrounded by idiots."
I chuckle and take another sip before continuing my walk. "You're already surrounded by idiots. One person doesn't make up for a village full. So, what do you want, Nara?"
"I'm bored. I can't go watch the clouds today and my mom is getting on my nerves."
"That doesn't tell me what you want from me." I retort, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear as I await his response.
"I don't want anything from you, Kitten."
I growl slightly at the nickname and grip my coffee cup tighter. "Take it back."
"I don't think I will."
"Take. It. Back. Nara."
"You're so troublesome." He mutters, rolling his eyes.
"Your hair looks like a pineapple." I state simply, momentarily intrigued by his hairstyle.
"Your hair-"
"If you say anything other than amazing, I will end you and make it look like a bloody accident." I threaten.
"You would own up to it and dance through the streets coated in my blood."
I cock my head to the side and consider it for a moment before agreeing.
"I would bask in the glory and my legacy would go down in history." I mutter, sarcasm dripping from my voice. "So really, what do you want from me other than to further annoy me?"
He shrugs and walks off into the rain, leaving me to stare at him with a cocked eyebrow. I roll my eyes and take another sip before continuing on my destinationless quest. Eventually I give up on finding something interesting to do, so I lay down across a bench and stare up at the sky, raindrops pelting me. I sigh lightly and close my eyes, enjoying the solitude of the village.
The rain suddenly stops hitting my face and my eyes shoot open. I look up to find Kakashi-sensei standing over me. I lift a hand and push his face away so I can sit up. Once upright, I raise an eyebrow, waiting for his explanation. He closes his romance novel which is surprisingly unscathed by the rain, and hands me a piece of paper.
"It's for the Chunin exams."
"Not interested." I reply, holding the paper out.
"Why not?"
"I have surpassed that level of training already, you said so yourself. It would be a waste of time for me and it honestly sounds like a bore."
His blank expression doesn't change.
"If you don't compete, your teammates can't either."
"Sakura will fail, obviously. She's too weak. Sasuke may as well, depending on the strengths of the other genin competing. Naruto is most likely to succeed, simply because of the Nine-Tails inside him. It's a waste of time. I'm not even a true member of the team, so they would be able to compete with or without me. I was just placed under your supervision because no one else wanted me. Chunin exams are set up for teams of three as well, leaving me to my own devices. I'm not bothered by that fact, it just seems to be a nuisance."
I look up from picking my nails as I finish and take a sip. His new expression is odd to me, I'm not quite sure what to pinpoint it as.
"What is it, Sensei?"
"It's nothing. I can't force you to participate, but I believe that you would excel and benefit. Atleast think it over."
He pushes the paper back into my hands before disappearing in a puff of smoke. I roll my eyes and remove one of my swords, wrap the paper around the blade, then return it to the sheath. I don't see the point in the exams other than letting angsty teens take out their blood lust on unsuspecting peers. Becoming a Chunin is simply a new title. Nothing really changes besides mission levels. The blood lust thing seems intriguing though. I shake my head before heading back toward my apartment. My hair and clothing are soaked through and dripping. Once inside with the door locked, I strip down in front of the door and carry my wet clothing into the bathroom. I place them in the sink before running water in the tub for a hot bath. I leave it running while I go into the living room to find a book to read. My fingers trace the spines before plucking a book of poetry from one of the shelves. I return to the bath and turn the water off before settling down into the warmth. I open the book and start to read, enjoying a relaxing evening.
The water starts to get cold, so I get out and wrap a fluffy towel around my body. I start to dry my hair as I let the tub drain. A loud thud resonates through my apartment, setting my body on alert. I open the cabinet underneath the sink and pull out the shuriken strapped to it. I make sure my towel is secured around my body before silently opening the door and stepping out into the dark hallway. There's the clink of glass from the kitchen, setting my direction. I slink along the hallways and into the living room, where I discard the shuriken and grab a sword instead. I unsheathe it and hold the blade out in front of myself. I make my way into the kitchen and quickly flip the light on. A girlish scream emanates from behind a cabinet door and I kick the door shut as the intruder springs backward out of the way. I see a flash of orange turned into a petrified Naruto who is still screaming.
"What the hell are you doing in my apartment, Boy Blunder?!" I yell out, furious that it was only him.
"I-I was hungry... I'm sorry Koneko, I just hoped you had- WAIT! WHY ARE YOU NAKED!? I'M BLIND!"
He covers his eyes with one arm while flailing the other around, his cheeks as red as a tomato.
"I'm not naked you baka. I just finished bathing when you broke in. Just because you're hungry doesn't give you the right to trespass in my apartment. Get out."
"You didn't have food anyway... Do you ever eat? Now that I think about it, I've never seen you eat before."
"Get. Out. Uzumaki, or I'll slit your throat." I glare at him until he shrinks away, climbing out the kitchen window he'd managed to get in through.
I sigh and close the cabinets after relocking the window. Sadly, I did have no food. I don't typically eat, only when I'd squirreled away enough money from our stupid missions to afford it. Our earnings are meager, if any, considering the levels of the missions. I sigh again before putting my weapons back and putting on a pair of sweat pants and an oversized black t-shirt. I take a deep breath, inhaling the faint scent lingering in the fabric.
