I wake up feeling physically and emotionally drained with a pounding headache. I try to sit up but can't seem to make my muscles respond to the request. With a sigh, I give up and choose to look out across the field. It's dark outside and I can see the stars clearly, but I don't feel the grass underneath me or see any around me. The wind is blowing fiercely, whipping my pink locks across my face. Strangely enough, it feels as if I'm flying. That sensation causes me to force my head to lift from the ground. I spy the back of a dark cloak with clouds on it. My eyes drift up from the cloak and lock onto blond hair.
"Dei-Deidara, what the hell?!" I yell out against the wind and dryness of my throat.
"Oh, you're awake, un." He smirks back at me before turning back to face our heading.
"Why am I here? What happened?" I ask, wishing I had the strength to beat him to a pulp.
"You mauled a line of trees before passing out, un. Rather impressive."
"Still doesn't explain why I'm here." I spit.
"I decided to take you with me, un." He replies as if it's the most normal explanation ever.
"Why!? Let me go you little-! Wait! You broke up with me and left, why the hell did you come back?" I painfully force my body to sit up so I can properly focus on him.
"Well, I can't discuss that part yet, un. You'll find out in the morning when we get there. In the meantime, get comfortable."
I shout curses in his direction but know that I can't do anything until we get to wherever it is we are going. If I knock him out, the bird will crash. I settle with simply flipping him a bird of my own, then turning my back against him, watching Konoha get further and further away from me. It's cold up here with no ground to pull warmth from, just open air and night sky. I would pull down the sleeves of my hoodie, but I took it off earlier in the day. I don't even know if he took it with us or left it behind. A shiver slides down my spine and I draw my legs to my chest, wrapping my arms around them for warmth. When we get off this bird, he is so dead.
I stare out at the endless expanse of sky and trees for what feels like hours, fighting shivers and freezing. By the position of the moon though, it has only been ten minutes. Something warm slips over my shoulders and I instantly relax slightly. I reach out to my sides and pull the garment around me further. The clouds give away the fact that it's his cloak. I swallow my pride and pull it around my body before zipping it up, enclosing all but my head inside. I notice from the corner of my eye that he has left his spot at the front of the bird to sit next to me dangling his feet over the edge.
"Thanks for the cloak... Did you bring my hoodie with us?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Yes, it's packed away with your other belongings, un."
"Swords?"
"Those too, un."
"Can I have them?" I ask hopefully.
"No."
I scowl even though I fully expected it. I keep my eyes on the sky, praying for a miracle. The Akatsuki is full of murderers and thieves. Albeit I dated one of said murderers. I still don't imagine Deidara would kill me, but I have no idea who the other members are though. Deidara would never tell me anything. I don't know what I'll be getting into here. I sigh and wonder what the hell I do to get myself into these kinds of situations.
"I'm sorry, un." He says, startling me.
"For what?" I reply, looking over at him for the first time. His eye is downcast, staring at the forest canopy.
"Everything."
"That doesn't explain much."
"I'm sorry for what I did and for what I will be bringing you into, un."
"If you're sorry, take me home." I mutter under my breath.
"You don't have a home Koneko. Even if you did, I can't, un."
"Harsh. Besides, why not?" I cut my eyes at him, waiting for his expression to betray his next words.
"I can't say, un." Those words are true, but it still bothers me to no end.
I choose to stay silent until I get tired again and curl up in a ball on the bird, wrapped up in the cloak.
A slight nudging stirs me from my slumber, the comforting scent of clay and cinnamon mixing together around me. I groan and wrap myself further into the blanket.
"Get out of my house Uzumaki. I will slit your throat..." I mutter before yawning. "You're lucky I don't sleep nude... Couldn't get enough of me in a towel, eh?"
"Uzumaki saw you in a towel, un?"
That voice pushes through the layers of sleep, waking me up fully. My eyes snap open and I sit up, wiping the sleep from my eyes.
"What- Oh wait, now I remember... Why'd you wake me up?"
"We're here. I have to blindfold you though, un. Also, you didn't answer me."
"He broke in to steal my nonexistent food and I had just gotten out of the bath. Why blindfold me? I didn't see where we went and most trees look the same."
He doesn't answer me and I sigh.
I roll my eyes and quickly begin to formulate a plan. I watch the blond dig through my bags, producing my hoodie and one of my socks. Is he seriously going to try to blindfold me with a sock? While he's digging, I get to my feet. He spins around to face me and I punch him, followed by a roundhouse to the stomach. It slams him backward off the bird. I quickly gather my belongings and shed his cloak. The bird begins to fall and I wait for the precise moment to jump from it and onto a tree limb. I land lightly on the limb, ignoring my protesting muscles and begin to sprint from branch to branch away from him. Behind me I can hear Deidara cursing. I chuckle to myself and continue on my journey. I stop for a moment to prepare myself for a further jump than the others, then leap. I see the limb underneath me coming closer, then a set of arms wraps around me. I scream as I turn to face a pair of glowing golden eyes before it all turns black. Shit.
When I wake up again, I'm in a dimly lit cavernous room with a familiar figure looking down at me. I sit up and take in my surroundings. There's not much to it, a dark room, few torches on the walls, sparse furniture, and my exboyfriend. I keep my gaze on him and darken it into a glare.
"What the HELL did you do!?" I yell, attempting to hit him but realize that my hands are bound.
"You are dismissed. Well done." A new voice says.
Deidara nods in the direction of the voice before turning around to leave.
"Deidara, what. Did. You. Do?" I repeat.
"I followed orders, un." He says coldly before walking out without a second glance.
"He is so dead..." I mutter quietly. "So, disembodied voice, you going to play in the shadows or are you going to be a man and come tell me what you want with me?"
"You have a smart tongue. We will have to fix that." He responds.
I note a figure stepping slightly away from the wall and toward me. The low lights from the torches cause a series of metallic glimmers to appear on his face. He must have facial piercings, plenty of them.
"Instead of stating the obvious, care to elaborate on the question I asked?" I retort.
A hand collides roughly with my cheek, turning my head to the side. I ignore the stinging sensation and fix a glare at the man.
"Keep your mouth closed unless I tell you to speak." He growls.
"Good grief, someone's on a power trip..." I mutter, then curse myself mentally.
My defense mechanisms for fear are mainly sarcasm and acting out. It's a curse. His hand strikes me again, fully knocking me off of the couch this time. My body hits the stone floor and I groan.
"What is your name?"
"Kitten." Slap.
"Name."
"Nekozawa." Kick to the ribs. I cough but refuse to show pain.
"Name. Now."
"Hanari, Koneko." I concede.
"Skills."
"I'm fluent in two languages: Japanese and sarcasm. I can make some really decent coffee-" I'm cut off by another swift kick to the ribcage.
"You're foolish. Give me a good reason for not allowing my group to do with you as they please."
"I'm an excellent fighter and highly intelligent. At home I am only ranked a genin but predicted to be truly at an untested Jonin level at the minimum." I may as well not get murdered immediately. We'll save that little celebration for another time. My stomach growls and I stare down at it. I still haven't eaten.
"Hey, do you have any food? It's been like a month. A girl's gotta eat sometime. I get a little cranky when I'm hungry."
I can tell he's getting highly frustrated with me. I'm so proud of myself. A figure enters the room from a corridor behind him, obviously just passing through. The piercing man glances over at him before turning back to me.
"Take this girl to the kitchen. Give her food then take her to my office."
Without another word, the man turns and disappears down the corridor, leaving me with the new man.
