Bad Days

The rest of the week passes by in a blur, sadly ending my miniature vacation from the trio of idiocy. After a shower and filling my cup with coffee, I slide on my boots and leave the house. A paper rustling behind me draws my attention and I turn around to investigate my door. Pinned to the wood is a dark red piece of paper. Shit. I pull it off and skim through the document. Clutching it tightly, I let out a frustrated growl before marching down to my landlord's apartment. I don't bother to knock, instead choosing to kick the door open. He's sitting at the table smoking one of his annoying, foul smelling cigarettes.
"Really Hideki? An eviction notice!?" I shove the offending paper in his face.
"You didn't pay your rent Hanari." He replies, puffing out a cloud of smoke.
"You knew I was broke when I moved in here! I do the best I can! You can't just kick me out. Give me an extension or something!"
"I've given you plenty extensions over the past year. We could always work out another way to make up for your rent money." The smug look on his face makes me snap, knowing what he's insinuating.
I grab him by the throat and lift him up from the chair. His cigarette falls from his mouth and I stomp on it.
"What did you just say?" I growl.
"You heard me, we can work it out. Your body a few times a month and you can live here rent free."
I release his throat and punch him in the face. He crashes into the table, snapping the legs. He stands and swings on me, connecting with my right eye. I kick him in the chest and send him flying backward into the kitchen. When he rushes back into the room, he's brandishing a knife. I pull my swords and block the slashes, countering every move with ease. He was a ninja many years ago, but he's obviously gotten sloppy with his movements. I kick him back and use my blades to pin his clothing to the wall. As I stab the second one into the structure, he throws his knife and it sinks into my collarbone. I wince and pull it out, tossing it to the side. I ignore the blood and repeatedly punch him until he breaks free from the wall. I dodge a punch but get kicked in the stomach. I hit the floor and try to catch my breath. I reach out and grab his ankle as he tries to kick me again, and I twist it painfully until I can hear the telltale signs of it snapping. Hideki screams and falls over, giving me the opportunity to stand and plant my boot on his windpipe. I watch his eyes bulge out while he struggles underneath my foot. I pull my swords out of the wall and point one at his face.
"Give me a reason not to kill you." I hiss lowly.
He tries to choke out a response but it comes out as frantic gasps.
"I'm getting my stuff. Go to hell you piece of shit."
I remove my boot from his neck and walk out, sheathing my swords again. I return upstairs, muttering curses under my breath. I unlock the door and grab the bags from underneath my bed, beginning to shove clothing and weaponry haphazardly inside. I sling the first one over my shoulder before strolling through the house, dumping my other belongings inside the other. Once I've taken everything that was mine, I slam the door shut and march back down the stairs. Hideki's door is still open, so I fling the key inside where it embeds itself into the wall. Now I have to find somewhere to go.
As I make my way through the streets, practically chugging my coffee to calm my nerves, I try in vain to figure out where I can stay. I have no friends or family in this village, and no money to find a new apartment. I push the thoughts from my mind as I reach the training ground. I toss my bags to the ground underneath and clear my throat. The trio freezes halfway up the trunks of the trees and fall. They're practicing chakra control again. We went through that when we escorted Tazuna to the Waves. Ignoring their grumbling complaints, I turn to Kakashi.
"You're late Koneko." He states without emotion.
"I was busy. I'm here now. Tree climbing? Piece of cake." I push Sasuke out of the way and purposefully stride up the tree, stopping at the top. I mark my place with a kunai before coming down.
"Why were you late? You're always early." Kakashi prods while the others return to climbing.
"I had something to do that is none of your concern." I retort, crossing my arms over my chest.
"You're bleeding."
"I got in a fight okay?" I snap. "I'm out of here, I have other things to do."
I turn to grab my bags and feel a dizzy sensation wash over me. I steady myself against the tree trunk and wait for it to pass. When it dies away, I try to gather my bags again but lose my balance. Someone catches me before I hit the ground. I look up to find Kakashi's good eye staring at me with concern. I push away from him and settle on the ground against the tree.
"What happened?" He asks, but I can tell it isn't meant as an optional question.
"I got in a fight with my landlord." I start as I begin to bandage my wound that I'd forgotten about. "He put an eviction notice on my door and I asked for an extension. His offer was to have me repay with my body. I hit him and one thing led to another and I got stabbed with a kitchen knife. Now I'm here." I refuse to look him in the face, choosing to instead glare at the dirt as if it was the ground's fault. I hear a rustling sound and my eyes dart over to my bags.
"Uzumaki! Get out of my stuff! Now. You already saw me in a towel the other day. I'm still debating on whether or not to gouge your pretty blue eyes out."
His face turns red and he backs away from my stuff. "You still have no food!"
Kakashi turns to me. "What does he mean by that?"
"That's the only thing you worry about from that? He broke into my apartment the other night while I was bathing. He tried to steal my food."
"You had no food! I know I usually don't but I get ramen. I never see you eat." Naruto mutters, obviously focusing on ramen.
"When was the last time you ate?" Kakashi asks.
"What's today?" I ask in response.
"The twenty-third."
"Oh. Then it was the... first? I believe that's right. I tap my chin in thought. "Yep. Definitely the first. I usually go longer than that before this happens."
"Why don't you eat?"
"I'm broke, obviously. I just got evicted from my apartment." I look up at my sensei with an 'I thought that was understood' expression.
"Naruto, get back to work, you need more experience with this than anyone. Sasuke, take Koneko to get food."
"Tch, like I need Duckie to escort me anywhere. I'm fine Sensei. Can I take the day off?"
"I suppose. Report back tomorrow and I'll need your slip for the exams."
I nod and get to my feet. I collect my bags and turn to walk away.
"Hey, take this." I turn to find Kakashi holding out money to me.
"I don't take charity." I reply, turning away.
"It's not charity."
I mock salute him and continue on my way back to town.
I wander through the village looking for a place to stay but have no luck. The flow of people increases so I decided to head to one of the fields on the outskirts of the village. I pass by a sleeping Shikamaru in one of the closer fields. I let him sleep and continue on. I make my way through a section of trees and emerge in a field of grass with patches of flowers throughout. I drop my bags in the center of the field and lay down next to them, fiddling with my clan necklace. Today is rather balmy so I take off my jacket to use as a pillow. I wince as I pull it over my head, but then notice more blood on it than I'd thought. I run a finger over the bandage and realize that I'd already bled through. No wonder Kakashi seemed so worried. I pull out a needle and thread and begin to carefully stitch my wound closed. As I finish, I notice a new presence in the field. I shift my gaze upward and find a very familiar person standing beside me. I smile lightly at them before putting my supplies away.
"You're bleeding, un. What happened?"
