Hidan and I leave the forest and he continues on while I linger behind, my eyes focusing on the windows of the Nara household. One of these leads to Shikamaru's bedroom but I'm not sure which. I'd been to his home one time to play Shogi against him. It's been years. I'll just have to pick a window and hope to Kami that it's the right one. I carefully slide the window closest to me open and glance inside. Despite the growing dawn, this side of the home is still in shadow so I can't see into it. With a quiet sigh I climb into the room and carefully touch the floor. I can sense Shikamaru's chakra heavily in this room but he's not in here. I must've gotten it right. I take a step further into the room and accidently bump into something. I mentally curse the darkness and literally slap myself as I remember something. While I was locked in the room, I gained the Hanari symbol, the Blue Lotus. I'd always thought it was a tattoo, but it turned out to be part of our kekkei genkai. Ours manifested on our arm and our eyes unlike most others that showed only in the eyes. Pein had a book that recorded the known kekkei genkai and he let me read on the Hanari pages so I could understand what it was. The symbol only first appears when the user is under extreme duress. It allows the user to see through some objects and perfects night vision.
I tap the symbol on my forearm and I can suddenly see the room perfectly as if the sun rose inside the room itself. My eyes land on Hidan's scythe that's propped up in the far corner of the room. A grin crosses my face and I move through the room toward it.
I feel myself fall forward and my chin painfully collides with the floor, clacking my teeth together painfully. A heavy weight settles on my lower back and I hear a lighter click a second later. Cigarette smoke reaches my nose and I scowl before growling at the person to get off of me.
"What are you doing in my room?"
"Smoking is bad for your health. It's hard to be the only smart one in the village if you intentionally harm yourself."
"It's very troublesome being the only source of intelligence around here but even still I'm smarter than you. You infiltrated the village and invaded my bedroom after a war where all of your comrades were killed. You were the last Akatsuki member and we were unable to find you until now."
I wiggle underneath his weight and try to force him off of me but I only succeed in turning myself over so he is sitting on my stomach.
"I'm not here for violence, revenge, or anything of the sort. I'm here for the scythe, that is all. My comrades are gone forever and that weapon belonged to the person that meant the most to me. I would like to have it."
I gaze up at Shikamaru to find him staring down at me carefully, a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. His eyes flicker over to the scythe then back to me before he sighs.
"You're so troublesome, you always have been, Kitten."
"Don't call me that, Pineapple head. Geez, why are you so fat?"
He shifts a little bit and I swear it's as if he's trying to squish me to death.
A few minutes of wiggling around and Shikamaru finally stands. I scramble to my feet before he can trap me again and glare at him. His hands raise and I back away from him though the shadows are inescapable in the room. He pauses and a small smirk crosses his face. I arch a brow and ask what the hell is so funny. He shakes his head slightly and mutters something about being as troublesome now as I'd always been. I stick my tongue out in response and inch closer to the scythe.
"I never got to ask, what happened to you when you disappeared from the village?"
"I was secretly seeing a member of the Akatsuki back then. I got kicked out of my apartment so I went to the field and he had shown up, wanting to take me with him. I refused and in the end he took me anyway." I pause and glance at my feet, feeling ashamed of how naïve I was back then. "I came back on my first mission with them, I did the signal and you responded but you never came. I saw you again that night in the forest and I fought to keep you alive."
"I tried to help you. The puppet man attacked me and knocked me out."
I nod and smirk. "You know, I used to like you, but I'm glad I outgrew it. You're much too troublesome. And that stinky smoking habit of yours. You're not that smart either."
He scoffs. "I could say the same of you."
"I didn't come here for chatter... Please, can I have the scythe? I'll take it and disappear again. I'm no longer an Akatsuki and I wish to only live my life as a drifter. I just want to be reminded of him."
"Why does the man who murdered my sensei mean so much to you?"
"I apologize for that... Hidan was the only member that I truly got close to. He trained me to be a scythe wielder. He was my best friend and a father figure to me when my own refused to acknowledge me. Please..."
"Once I give you the weapon, you are to leave the village and not return. You will be executed if you are captured. You're always in trouble when I see you. Don't let me see you again."
