When we were in Carly's car, she grabbed my hand and looked at me..
"I've never seen Jace cry before. There is no doubt in mind he is completely in love with you Mackenzie. You're going to have to tell him that you're pregnant and that he is the father."
Never seen him cry before? Gee that made me feel even worse.
"I will, just not right now. First, I need to tell your mom." She bit her lip and looked at me, unsure. She didn't think I would. I'd told her mom, coach, and Spencer but I have yet to tell Jace.
"What? You don't think I would? I plan on doing it once we meet up with her for lunch." I scoffed. She smiled and shook her head. She didn't say anything so she put her car in drive and drove us to the restaurant. During the car ride there, I had a flashback about that night with Spencer. Besides Carls, he was the only one who knew about Jace, and I was still surprised he hasn't spilled anything.
Flashback***
"Babe what's wrong?" Spencer grabbed my hands and walked us into his room. Looking at the worry in his eyes just made this harder. I hated myself for doing this to him, and I absolutely hated what I was about to do to him.
He wrapped his arms around me and whispered "Tell me what's on your mind." I placed my hands on his chest and pushed him away until he let me go.
"I think its best if you sit down for this one." I nervously said
"I think ill stand." He said cautiously
"Spencer I-" Dammit. Just do it Mac. Just like mom and coach, don't skip around it. I stopped and took a deep breath..
"I... Ja-...Uh... I'm pregnant." He bent slightly at the waist, looking like i'd literally just stabbed a knife through his gut.
"How is that possible?," He asked, confused as he sagged onto the bed. "We never had-" His face fell and his breath came out in a huff, "You cheated on me?" He figured it out. It was pointless to keep trying to wipe my tears away, they were coming too fast.
"Spencer, I... I'm so so-"
"You did, didn't you?"
I bit my lip and nodded my head.
"And you're pregnant?" He sounded completely pissed off and defeated.
"Yes"
He ran his hand over his buzzed cut hair and down his face
"With who? Wait... Never mind. I already have a feeling who."
"How? Did he tell you?"
"He didn't have to. I'm not stupid Mackenzie. I see the way you look at him when you think I'm not watching you. How you bite your lip and space out whenever you look at that damn tattoo." He knew all along.
"Spencer, I'm sorry! It was just one weekend and I completely hate myself for it! If I could take it back, I would!"
"Don't. Don't feed me with those bullshit. You wouldn't take it back so don't...Does he even know?" He glanced up to meet my eyes.
"No" It barely came out above a whisper. We stared at each other for an undetermined amount of time, both silently crying, before he asked me one last question.
"Why Mac?" I wanted to make up an excuse, tell him I was drunk or something, but he needed to know the truth. I owed him that much.
"I love him too Spence." He flinched and shut his eyes. "I know I may be asking to much but would you please not tell him about this? And if your'e going to be angry at someone, be angry at me. I did this to you... not him."
"No. You did this to us Mackenzie." He slowly stood up and made his way toward the door and opened it "I'll keep my mouth shut. I've always known how he felt about you, and you obviously chose him so I have no reason to be mad at him for. You have to leave, now." He wouldn't even look at me as I left. He just held the door with a tight, shaking grip and tried to calm his breathing.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered before leaving.
Present*****
I glanced up, surprised to see we were already pulling into the restaurant parking lot.
"Well....here goes nothing." Carly said as she pulled her keys out of the ignition.
"How do you think she's going to take it?" I nervously asked. Carly sighed and ran a hand through her blond hair.
"Ha! I honestly don't know!"
I looked at her in horror, "What if she hates me? What if they kick me out Carls?"
"Mac, they wouldn't do that to you, and my parents could never hate you. But I honestly don't know how shes going to take it."
We stopped talking and got out of the car. When we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and was escorted to our table. Mom gave us a huge smile as she greeted us with hugs.
"I'm so excited for the appointment! We'll be able to find out a due date and hopefully, if you're far enough we can hear the heartbeat!" She was clapping and bouncing.
"Is it messed up if I'm not exactly thrilled right now?"
"Of course not honey, but you should be excited. You've already gotten the hard parts down. Now its time to breath." I still have Jace though
The waitress took our drink orders as well as our food. We then chatted about school, Cory and Carls, my plans on maybe going back to school after this year ended, and if I was going to have a boy or a girl. Speaking of the pregnancy...
"Uh, Hey mom? I saw the baby's dad today.."
Her mouth formed an O shape "Did you tell him?"
"No... I thought maybe I should tell you who he is first."
"Well i don't see why you had to tell me first unless... Do i know him?" Her eyes were large and she looked like she was holding her breath.
"Yeah.." Carly tried to cover her laugh with a cough and grabbed her iced tea to take a sip. Like a band aid Mac...Just rip it off and get it over with. I took a deep breath and blurted out...
"It's Jace."
