"Oh thank god!" Katherine exclaimed and put a hand over her chest. Carly spewed out her drink and my jaw dropped just like the spoon I was holding.

"WHAT?!" Carly and I screeched in unison. She shushed us and looked around the restaurant for a second before leaning over the table.

"Mac,my son is in love with you sweetie. He has been for a while, thats why he doesnt come around the house on Sundays. He told us a month or so ago that as long as you were with Spencer, he couldnt handle being around you anymore, said it was too hard."

I swear my jaw dropped even more and I was in absolute shock.

"Mac, sweetie when you said you were pregnant, I knew he was going to be crushed but when you told me Spencer wasn't the father, I was hoping it would be Jace's. Don't get me wrong, I wish you weren't going through this while at a young age and not married, but what's done is done and we can't control it anymore. He'd even talked about possibly moving away after graduation. I knew he would do it if he found out you were pregnant, especially with some other guy."

"OMG! Mom! why didn't you tell me? I didnt know I was the reason he wasn't coming around on family days. You must have hated me! Why did you let me move in?"

"Because we love you Mackenzie. Just because my son couldn't handle his feelings for you, doesn't mean James and I were going to stop loving you. Even if he did move away, that wouldnt have been your fault. It was his choice in the first place."

"Holy shit." I huffed and sunk into my seat.

"Ditto!" Carly chimed in

"Mackenzie.." Mom began "You have got to tell him. At some point he'll find out you're pregnant from someone else and he'll think its not his, he'll be gone."

That cant happend. I love him. I don't want him to leave. But his possible leaving has been stopping me from telling him all along. Katherine was wrong, Jace would know it was his, but that won't stop him from leaving.

"He isn't going to want a baby. He'll walk away from me...from our baby. I love him, and this baby just proves that, but im terrified he would leave us one day. He seems to be an expert on that mom. One day he's in love with me and then the next few weeks he avoids me and refuses to speak to me."

"He stays away because it kills him to watch you with Spencer. When you would go to his house, he would always hang out at ours so he wouldn't have to see you two together. All he does is talk about you in a way that suggested that you didn't know he loved you. He won't leave you Mac, this was the first time he's ever spoken about a girl with us."

Once again I was shocked and flattered. I always thought the reason Jace wasn't around his house was because of work. I didn't know he was killing time at his parent's. I didn't know how to respond to that and I was somewhat relieved when mom spoke up again.

"Regardless if he's ready for the child or not, He's the father, he has to help you!"

"NO!" I said a little too loud and quieted my voice "No. I want him to be with me, but that doesn't mean I am going to force him to just because we are having a baby together. My entire life Coach has resented me, I'm not going to go through that with Jace doing the same."

"He wouldn't." Carly cut in.

"He might." I looked between the both of them and said sternly "I'll tell him soon, but you have to let him make the choice."

They both agreed and had huge smiles on their faces. I wish I could feel the same. We finished lunch, paid the bill and was now headed to my first appointment. When we first arrived there, we sat in the office and spoke with Dr. Homers, an extremely young lady who was a friend of mom's.

"When was the day of your menstrual period Mackenzie?"

"December 26" I said nervously

"And do you have a clue on when the baby may have been concieved?"

"Either January 10 or 11"

The Doctor took a minute to write things down on her clipboard then grabbed a plastic wheel and moved it around.

"Okay so your due date would be October 2. You're practically 8 weeks so we can start you're first ultrasound and hear the heartbeat on that baby of yours."

Mom smiled and clapped her hands while Carly looked like she was doing math in her head. We followed her to another room and after changing and positioning myself on the table, the lights were turned off and the ultrasound started. At first all I saw was a gray screen with a dark circle in the middle but then once she zoomed in, I saw what looked like a gummy bear. Moms breath caught and my eyes widened.

"There's your baby!" Dr.Homers said smiling while pressing different buttons. "I'm going to take measurements. I'd say you were seven weeks and 8 days."

Oh my effing lord this is real. It's real isn't it? Yep it's real. There's a freaking gummy bear growing in me!. I'm pretty sure the doctor was pointing out the head and arms but I was beyond mesmerized by the screen, I wasn't paying attention too much.

"MACKENZIE!"

"Huh?"

The three of them laughed, and I wonder how long they'd been trying to get my attention.

"Are you ready to hear the heartbeat?" I looked over at Dr.Homers's warm smile and nodded my head. She clicked a button and my heart stopped beating. We all held our breath as a whooshing noise filled the room. It wasn't what I was expecting, it was really fast and it didn't sound like what I thought a heart beat would sound like. Carly grabbed my hand and Katherine reached for some tissue to wipe her tears. My vision started to blur and I realized I was crying too. I closed my eyes and listened to the most amazing sound in the world.

"I'm going to be a grandma!" Mom cried happily.

"Oh my God, I'm going to be a mom."

Dr.Homers flipped on the lights and handed me the pictures of the ultrasound

"Now will the father be joining us for these? I highly suggest the father being here for everything."

I didn't know how to respond to that without sounding awkward so thankfully Katherine spoke up "Oh, my son will defiantly be here next time."

I hope she's right.

After the appointment, we picked up my prenatal vitamins and headed straight home. Mom couldn't wait for James to come home from work so she had called him on the way to the appointment to let him know Jace was the father, and apparently he was just as relieved. Crazy. When we sat down for dinner that night, he got misty eyed when we showed him the photos and joked with me about making him a grandpa at such a young age. Everyone was smiling, including me, I just wished Jace could have been there too.
